Topic Dog Boards / General / Crufts 2019 best in show , whose team are you on?
- By Sarakingsley [gb] Date 10.03.19 19:51 UTC
Now we have all our contenders for best in show whos team are you on are you

Team Shih Tzu
Team papillon
Team Scotish Terrier
Team Samoyed
Team boxer
Team Irish water Spaniel
Team Petite Basset Griffon Vendeen

I was team Scotty until the Shih tzu won i am know team shih tzu as a lot of friends and my sister has them and they have amazing temperaments and characters. I will still be over the moon of the Scottish terrier wins as i love scotland and love Jock , while everyone watches lady and the tramp for lady i always watch it for Jock as a kid he made me laugh and scottys always bring a smile to my face.

Loved the Pap and the rapport with the owner/handler but (especially since being on this group ) I worry about the effects on the breed of becoming popular and possible bybs

Agree debbo. The worry of popularity is definitely a concern for.most breeds who get into the limelight. I do hope not :(

The same thought went through my head when the Pap won.  Especially as it's a first for the breed.  It was certainly a worthy win, but will this breed be the next "must have" like so many before.

Guess the handbags will need to be a bit bigger now!  I would need a wheelbarrow for mine !

Perhaps this depends on the popularity of the breed before...Whippets have been popular before, during the previous 3 Crufts BIS winners..

I suppose at least Paps are relatively free of health problems compared with some recently-trendy dogs like French Bulldogs, Pugs, etc.

Maybe it’ll be a bit more difficult for unscrupulous only-in-it-for-the-money breeders to mess them up? Maybe I’m just being too optimistic though!

I hope you're right Silverleaf - maybe you are as they tend to have small litters but  Ive joined a number of international papillon Fbk groups since I got my Pap and have seen huge variations from standards and little health testing...

I'm not really sure what you're getting at Goldenfrenzy.  Can you explain what you mean?

Girls with tiny dogs in handbags! Have you not seen the pictures of celebs on tv with their "handbag "dogs? Seems to be a trend now.
- By furriefriends Date 12.03.19 08:32 UTC
I think what Debbo means as she will understand the term is that Papillon are small enough to be handbag dogs but ATM not a popular breed for gp

Ah! My mistake Debbo, i dont know much about paps (as you can probably tell) and didnt realise they were quite that small.
- By furriefriends Date 12.03.19 09:26 UTC Upvotes 1
Between 3 and 4 kg so tiny :)

Judging by the Paps I’ve met, I can’t see them staying still in a handbag for very long!

They seem happy to cuddle for a few minutes but then they’re off to find a toy or jumping onto the back of the sofa or insisting that your arms need another “wash”... ;)

I do hope people aren’t going to think I want a Pap because of Dylan. Honestly I’ve been researching breeds for ages and Paps have always been top of my list.

I just hate people thinking I’m the type to jump on a bandwagon, especially where animals are concerned.

It's one of three breeds I am interested in for.the future. Which ever I decide on what other people think of my choice will be no concern to me and wont be coloured by popularity
Breeds do become popular because of things like this  when the Kentuckian (fcr ) won crufts the increase in people wanting the breed rose and not always for the right reason. Same with Dalmatians and chihuahuas due to the film's  . It's does give those who don't breed ethically a chance unfortunately but buy supporting good breeders we do go a way to helping jmo

For me it was the Sammy and then the PBGV.    I least admired that Boxer.   Not only the ghastly t-pot spindly tail this breed now have, but his broad unrefined head, even for a male of the breed.
