The powers-that-be decided that the TV audience should not be allowed to see the GSD 'Hettel Di Casa Mary (IMP ITA)' moving in the Group ring and yet, it was ok to show a dog having a pop at the judge ...

You could see ALL the breeds gone over and moved on the YouTube coverage ... rather than the 'highlights' on C4

Not the KC the TV company & all the group can be seen on Youtube

Take you prefer the "English" type of GSD

Have you a link to that particular class?  Or the 'having a go at the judge' clip?
- By tatty-ead [gb] Date 09.03.19 13:56 UTC
It was the Anatolian that won BoB, it was 1st in the group line-up and the judge was a bit 'rushing things' when he looked at the teeth, several further down the line showed the teeth themselves.

Oops internet went off. Omitted

The only type to take a pop in the ring on TV was an Alsatian that attacked the Chief Group Steward before being seen by the Group Judge, the bitch wasnt judged by the group judge & her removal from the ring wasn't shown by the BBC.

I was watching a very large golden retriever class and the judge was getting the handler to present the teeth rather then doing it himself. It has now made me wonder if it’s a good thing that the judge is examining the teeth as it’s possible he could be transmitting an incubating disease from one dog to another. Is this a possibility?

Some judges, in some breeds, do get the handler to show the judge the dogs teeth...
- By georgepig [gb] Date 09.03.19 15:25 UTC
Why did they decide this? Does it move horribly (I have not seen the clip)? If so it should be shown I think for discussion, albeit it a lively one, as judges should not be putting such dogs through.

The TV company edit what is being shown not the KC. If you want to know why the GSD wasnt shown, contact Channel 4

In GSDs it's the normal for the handler to show the teeth & gor the judge to count & examine then hands off.

When Parvo surfaced in the UK it originated fron Australia & apparently a well known british judge had been present in every country just before the first non Australuan cases were diagnosed. He handled all the dogs opening their mouths etc & the first Parvo cases where found in show dogs !!

Having shown a GSD for a while, I actually know this!!

When I was judging, I always asked the handler to show me the bite.  A good judge will/should use the water which should be there in a bowl, after handling the teeth.  And yes, there could be the risk of infection.

I had a feeling that one of the Terrier breeds (Smooth haired Fox Terrier) had a pop at the group judge yesterday?

I didn't miss the GSD in the group, but now you mention it, no I don't remember seeing it.

I've just gone onto youtube to watch the gsd and the movement has been totally cut from the footage as i missed it too. Goes from going over the dog to immediately onto the Puli
- By Brainless [gb] Date 10.03.19 10:24 UTC
That is strange as I saw the whole movement on the youtube footage and that was after.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 10.03.19 12:37 UTC
Just checked and the whole group coming in, being gone over and moved still there.
- By Lacy Date 10.03.19 16:26 UTC
Have just gone back again to check as I couldn't see it, GSD, comes in, is gone over & that it's, around 25 mins on YouTube. Perhaps there's another recording I've missed.
- By monkeyj [gb] Date 10.03.19 18:46 UTC
Yep the video posted by Crufts official youtube channel doesn't show GSD movement... how strange

If the TV company had the final say on what was shown, they would have kept the GSD 'moving' in. Television is all about 'viewer ratings' and as there was so much uproar last year about the GSD, there is no way the TV company would have left that out without being told too.

Personally, I think it is a huge shame for the GSD that won BOB. Everything else was shown moving and it did the dog and the breed a huge disservice by censoring it.

I don't know how much experience you have with TV companies, but they via the program producers have the total control over the content of their programs, not the event(that they are covering)organisers. It has always been this way, even with the BBC. The Kennel Club do not have any say in the content, hence some subliminal advertising & product placement during the program. Plus the excessive amounts of non breed content. Just how many times the Britains Got Talent girl appear in the agility content ? Was she THE top handler there ?

One TV channel covered a set of sheepdog trials in Scotland that showed all the runs of the dogs with no editing & on the otherhand the BBC had One man & his dog, which was heavily edited, parts refilmed & tbh it was like watching the film Babe sheepdog trial without the animal voices. Each episode took a whole day to film & another for reruns !!

The whole of each group judging is on Youtube & not just the"interesting bits" there was also live streaming( non channel 4)organised by the KC via facebook/youtube throughout Crufts of lots of events the TV have never fully covered.
