Topic Dog Boards / Health / Changes in our Rubies posture

We have a ten year aged King Charles Cavalier Spaniel,   She has started to crouch over a bit and is
very clingy.  I also notice that she twitches more than usual.   Does anyone have a dog with similar
Traits.

I would get a vet check .this could be pain from something certainly sounds like it .  .only someone  actually seeing your dog could say otherwise we are guessing

Is your dog a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel or a King Charles Spaniel ?

Both have the same health conditions & diagnosis needs to be done by your vet.

Vet time.  It sounds like she is in considerable pain.  Possibly abdominal, or lower back/hips, or could be something else.  In any case, she sounds very sore indeed and needs seeing as soon as possible.

Please come back and advise us the outcome of your vet visit.  Poor girl needs to be seen urgently.  We would all like to know how she is.

Rubie has seen the Vet today and all is well.  She has a stiff lower back and the twitches
are to be videod and shown to the Vet.

So happy that she's okay

Thank you for the update. Fingers crossed that they can get to the bottom of it.

Hopefully they will give her something to keep her comfortable as it sounds like she has pain at least until.theu can confirm diagnosis

Visit to a McTimoney chiro ???

Yep, I'd go chiro too.  I find vets tend to underestimate the level of pain (in part because most dogs hide it during an examination) and a chiro will give you a much more realistic picture of what's going on, both in terms of pain and possible cause, as well as treating the dog.  Very, very useful as an adjunct to seeing a vet as they can often direct you more precisely via individual muscle tension for things such as x-rays, for where to look.

Stiffness is a pain indicator and in the lower back, I'd be suspecting things like spondylosis/arthritis or possibly a mild prolapsed disc.  Or indeed it could still be hips and the stiffness is from altered gait and posture, trying to compensate for the sore bits.

Could always be Syringomyelia, the pain isnt always confined to the head & neck & upper back
