Topic Dog Boards / General / Holiday home with 5 dogs? Scotland
- By chaumsong Date 22.02.19 16:37 UTC
Can anyone recommend a holiday home for maximum 5 people and 5 dogs in Scotland? Preferably in a good area for hill walking. The places I've stayed before have now both been sold and don't accept dogs! Needless to say the dogs are clean, quiet and well behaved, the people too

Can't help you specifically ( you may be pushing it with 5 dogs!!) but the above link may produce something.  There are others, if you search.

Here's another that has a menu that goes to 6 dogs!!

I haven't been but a lot of folk seem to like Wauchope Cottages in Hawick http://www.wauchopecottages.co.uk/cottages_2.html

I was just going to say that Marisa.

Also https://www.carmichael.co.uk/  in Lanarkshire so not sure about hill walking though. We go every year most we have had was 6 dogs I think

Brilliant thanks Marisa and Cava, both good suggestions but not really the area I was looking for, for this holiday anyway, I might use them in the future. I really want somewhere with good hill walking nearby or I'd compromise for lovely beaches. I see Carmichael do have a highland lodge but only for 2 people.

My friend and her husband have stayed in lots of different areas of Scotland. If you give me some areas you would be interested in I'll see if she comes up with anything.

She has 4 dogs and when I stayed a couple of times it was 6

Oh thank you  Ideally somewhere rural, pretty, good hill walking, maybe near the beach or a loch. 2 to 4 hours driving north or west of Edinburgh. So maybe the black isle, Inverness to Fort William area but not the towns/cities themselves. Maybe past Inverary, over towards Oban or Glencoe.

Have sent her an email. Hopefully she will think of some places

Plenty hillwalking around Hawick area and Wauchope is pretty remote, yes I am a 'native'.

Spoke to my friends Chaumsong and they pretty well avoid hills so no good for you. I think you should look into Wauchopes more it is really dog friendly

We always stay at Bays and Bens Holidays at Taynuilt, just outside Oban. They have a cottage and various static caravans some of which are dog friendly. We always stay at the cottage Brolas with our 2 dogs. Have a look, I don't know how many dogs they allow but the cottage sleeps 6. There are lots of very good walks around. Our favourite is Ben Lora at Benderloch which has lovely views from all the way up the mountain across to the islands.

Sensible people  Thank you though

Actually I think the east neuk is the least dog friendly area in Scotland with some beaches not allowing dogs over summer. Also it's on my doorstep so I wouldn't need a holiday home

Thanks anyway, I'm not looking for recommendations of areas as I live here and walk my dogs all over Scotland so I know it pretty well. I'm looking for specific recommendations of holiday homes that will accept more than the usual 2 dogs. I've spent literally days emailing places to get the standard 2 dog policy reply.

I think it's too close to home to feel like a holiday but I'll go look around this weekend, thank you

No problem at all if that’s not what you are looking for but when you mentioned beaches the area ticks those boxes.I have to say I have travelled throughout the East Neuk for years and always been received positively with the beaches full of dogs.I know of none that dogs cannot exercise on.Anyway good luck.

Finally found something, for anyone searching the forum later looking for holiday homes with multiple dogs here's the link (Lomond View Lodge). I'll update in September with what it's like
