Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Dog bleeding after mating
- By subashprabhu [in] Date 18.02.19 05:15 UTC Edited 18.02.19 05:19 UTC
Hi guys I need some advice. My bitch was mated 15 days ago on day 16 of her season. She continued to bleed in light color as normal after mating. Pl advice.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 18.02.19 05:51 UTC Upvotes 1
The season will continue as normal whether mated or not, in fact in my experience bleeding may resume or may even go on a bit longer.

My bitches who are rarely mated earlier than yours was often have bled for the full month.

Thanks for your advice@brainless

Still  light red/ brownish/pale color discharge..there is no odour with the discharge, her temp is normal, she is well and eating etc
- By MamaBas [gb] Date 18.02.19 07:54 UTC
There is always the worry about discharges being Pyometra BUT although my girls tended to have a light coloured discharge to the normal end of a season (through the 3rd week) mated or not, we had one who came into a more blood-coloured discharge through her final week of a normal season.   In her case, although I wasn't 'worried' about what was going on, as it was different with a mated bitch, for mine, I did think she'd probably not taken.   She had an uneventful pregnancy and 9 of probably the best puppies we'd ever had.   We kept 3 (1 dog and 2 bitches) who came back with the others, to the UK and one took a UK title.  That was a thrill.

Unless your girl is not well, I'd just keep an eye on her and fingers crossed.

Still  Continued redish watery discharge..now day on 31 of her season. She is mated on 16th day ..

Thanks @oneteothreefour

I'd suggest that she shouldn't be having a discharge 31 days from the start of her season.  Has your vet taken a look - is she running a fever?  Is she drinking more than usual?
- By subashprabhu [in] Date 19.02.19 09:04 UTC
Mamabas Thanks for your reply...her temp is normal, she is well and eating etc
- By Lexy [dk] Date 19.02.19 10:44 UTC
Bitches can have longer seasons than 3 weeks..i had one that lasted 5 weeks!
- By onetwothreefour Date 19.02.19 11:04 UTC
Still very normal.  Watery reddish is how it often goes towards the end, for my girls anyway.  That, or much darker as the flow slows down...
- By subashprabhu [in] Date 19.02.19 15:31 UTC
Thanks for reply lexy
- By subashprabhu [in] Date 20.02.19 08:09 UTC
Now small amount darker discharge ...she is well and eating etc
- By onetwothreefour Date 20.02.19 10:41 UTC
Sounds pretty normal.  It will often go darker at the end because the blood flow is taking longer to come out, so the blood is older.

Thanks...pl advise whether the dog is pregnant r not

None of us have a crystal ball to know if you bitch has taken to a mating just 2 weeks ago!!!
- By onetwothreefour Date 20.02.19 12:58 UTC
Impossible to tell.  It will only be known for sure from about week 6 onwards of her pregnancy.  You have a long wait ahead.
- By subashprabhu [in] Date 20.02.19 17:11 UTC
Ok ok @1234
- By subashprabhu [in] Date 20.02.19 17:11 UTC

- By Lexy [gb] Date 21.02.19 06:12 UTC

Thank u lexy

If I had a bitch whose seasons lasted significantly over the normal 21 + a few more days, on a regular basis, I'd get her spayed.  Having one doing that in my small pack would have been far too much upheaval.   Just as one who comes in more often than every 6 months.   I had one who started cycling every 5, and she was spayed.
- By subashprabhu [in] Date 22.02.19 04:29 UTC Edited 22.02.19 04:31 UTC
Now very less ( some drops ) dark color discharge. She is mated 19 days ago on day 16 of her season..now the abdomen is swelling and eating well...
- By Lexy [gb] Date 22.02.19 06:50 UTC Upvotes 1
Sounds to me like you are worried . My advice would be take your bitch to a vet!!
- By kayenine [gb] Date 22.02.19 08:00 UTC Upvotes 2
If her abdomen is swelling then I'd take her to the vet asap as a possible pyo - at 19 days there is no way that a pregnancy would show!
- By MamaBas [gb] Date 22.02.19 08:07 UTC
^^^

For sure!

I can't understand..
- By furriefriends Date 22.02.19 09:44 UTC Upvotes 1
What can't u understand ? She needs a check by the vet .it is possible that she has an infection and needs urgent attention. Pyometra being the infection that people are saying need to be checked for .it is  a big worry and only a vet can tell u and know what to do in her case  . So people are saying that u need a vet to look at her today .
Given no-one here can see your dog a vet is the way forward

I think the OP is over-feeding her.

Please don't give your dog any extra food this early in her pregnancy!!  You will only make her fat, and this will only make fat puppies which are difficult to whelp and have a higher risk of getting stuck during the birth and also fat bitches find whelping harder.

You only need to increase the food in the last 3 weeks of pregnancy, and even then - not a huge amount.
- By MamaBas [gb] Date 22.02.19 13:17 UTC
True - we fed our pregnant bitches the same good quality she always had, and by the last few weeks, cut back on the bulk and upped protein, feeding more smaller meals as her increased girth dictated.   Once the puppies were on the ground, then knowing how many they had to cater for, we'd up the food intake or not if it was only a small litter.   We don't need to be carrying extra weight when pregnant, and neither should our bitches.

Perhaps OP didn't know what ^^^ meant - it was to show I agreed with the previous post!

Hi friends, what is the first(early) symptoms of pregnant dog.My bitch was mated 23 days ago on day 16 of her season.
- By onetwothreefour Date 26.02.19 11:13 UTC Upvotes 2
You might see some clear discharge from her vulva around day 21, which is implantation.  Clear and like thick spit is the best way to describe it.  But not all dogs have this.

There is really no way - no clear sign - a bitch is definitely pregnant until you can scan her.  And even then, she can absorb the puppies between the time of scanning and whelping.  So really, take a chill pill and treat her as if pregnant until you are into the last 3 weeks, when you will know from the size of her belly if she is pregnant!

TOTALLY agree with this - by week 7, you should be able to see the puppies moving around, unless you have a bitch with well-sprung ribs (like my breed) who is hiding them up there
- By Tommee Date 26.02.19 15:18 UTC
You sound very desperate to confirm that your bitch is in whelp. She either is or she isn't so as others have written chill, there is nothing you can do now, even if you have her scanned she could still absorb the fetuses for several weeks ahead. It's only around 9 weeks fron mating to delivery hardly a lifetime to wait
