Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Pregnant female - can't feel puppy moves
- By Tundermarin Date 04.02.19 08:53 UTC
Hello!
My middle-big sized female is between 50-57 days old pregnant today, and I worry, cause I can't feel any movements of the puppies.

We was at the third ultrasound 1,5 weeks before (when she was 40-47 days old pregnant) and we saw two lively pups with hearthbeats and spine. It is sure a very small litter.

Since this last check her belly not get bigger, and I still can't feel any movement inside. :( Her tits are big and reddish, but no milk yet.

She is very happy, eat and drink well. No signs of any discharge.

I hope everything is fine with the pups, im so stressed. Can you give me advise?

If she lost her puppies, I can see signs of that?

Thank you for reading!

At this stage, there's nothing much you can do if she HAS lost her puppies, so the best thing to do is try to relax.

If she only has 2 pups, they may have much more room to move around so you probably won't see so much from the outside...

If you get stressed, she is going to pick up on that - so try to stay relaxed and positive.

To be fair in over 20 litters I have very rarely felt puppies move and all have been litters of over 3 puppies.

As said, there's nothing you can do at the moment, unless she starts having a nasty discharge.    I always say scanning maybe ok to confirm or not, a pregnancy but even if puppies are seen at the time, there are no guarantees the bitch will carry to term.   I'm afraid I had one who looked the expected size at around 5 weeks, but didn't get any bigger.  In the end, she had one bitch puppy, by C.Section after x-ray at full term, showed she was there.   Whether mum reabsorbed the others or not we/I don't know.   My vet saw no sign that this had happened.

I've always seen movement from around 7 weeks with mine although they go quiet within 24 - 48 hours of birth.  The first time this happened, not expecting that, I panicked.

If there are no puppies (or even 1 by C.Section!!) it's going to be very disappointing, but at least you should still have mum, which is always the most important thing, to me.

Thank you all the answers!

Update: as im stressed like hell, I decided to go with her a vet again for a check for sure. We scanned her belly and we find the puppies, they are lively!
Maybe my female is too big and the puppies can hide inside her belly, there is a big space for 2-3 pups, that's why I can't feel them.
Im soooo happy and calm right now! :)

Thank you for coming back to us with an update.   We always wonder what is happening when people don't keep us updated.
