I have been quoted £319 for castration of my corgi he has testicular cancer and he will have the scrotum taken away as well
Is that a fair estimate

Very high if it were a simple castration I would expect around £100, that's Bristol where prices are higher than some places but less than London and South East.

I'd ask for a breakdown of why the price is high, is it for some extra procedures to do with the cancer.

My last spay last year was £180, and normally castrations are between half and two thirds the price.

Maybe they intend to take a larger area away because of the cancer or run further tests? Would be worth asking if you are unsure what you are paying for.

I am near Edinburgh. A straightforward castration is £250.
I feel that if there is competition nearby the vets keep their prices lower.
Our local vets are the only ones in the area so pretty much charge what they can get away with.
A consultation with no treatment is now £30.

Wow!!!  Consultations here are £35, but there are a number of vet practices competing with neutering, I assume to encourage it.

I pay £37 for a straightforward consult so consider £30 astonishing.

Looking at my recent bills, my current vet charges a basic £25 for a consulation - but then there's VAT to add.   Repeats for the same problem are less.

On the N.Cornwall coast.

I've not had this Practice do a spay or castration but if there is cancer involved (castration) I'd suspect that would mean higher cost as it's more complicated than a routine castration.   You can but ask.   BUT I would just say I'd go for a vet I knew and could trust because that's more important than cost really.

Brainless I'll have to join your vet, ours charge:  boys neutering £155.29 - £198.13    girls spaying  £246.34 - £294.52    Both depending on age and size of dog>

One of my dogs has just had a single cracked carnassial tooth removed. The other teeth were in excellent condition, so no cleaning  or scaling was needed, but I was given AB's and Meloxicam to bring home. I used a referral dental specialist as there was a possibility that he might have been able to do a root canal, but that option turned out not to be possible. My bill was £766.43. Ouch!

My Lexi's removal of 22 teeth was under £500, though I have ben with that practice since 2000.

I have had a large carnassial removed from Inka last year ,and it was around £250

Yes Brainless, my girl damaged hers on an antler last year, and my vet charged £250 to extract it. I think the additional cost was due picking a referral practice. I have to say the quality of the work was excellent though, my lad was x-rayed afterwards to make sure that no alveolar bone remained, and the gum was very neatly closed with stitches.
