We have two bichon's about a year and a half old. Billy's eyes run and he itches to the point of scrathing down to and through the skin. We have taken him to the vets many times, but their solutions are only temporary...that is until the present sore is healed. We have changed his diet to an all meat diet, but that has not helped Billy. It has helped our other bichon, Beau.

I am giving Billy benadryl to stop the itching. What else can I do.

Are your dogs bathed regularly? If so it could be the shampoo that is being used, or any perfume that may be sprayed on them, causing the problems. If you have them done by a groomer then ask them what shampoo they are using and whether they use any perfume sprays. Also some household products cause itchyness so may I suggest you refrain from using any for about 2 weeks and see if that makes a difference if it does reintroduce them one at a time to find the culprit. Another point is to only use metal or ceramic bowls to feed and water your dogs. I have heard of one case where a dogs skin problems were 'cured' when the lady changed to a ceramic dish from a plastic one to hold the water for her dog!
