I am looking to breed my bitch this year. She will be 2 years old in June and wondered if there was an experienced Ridgeback breeder that would be willing mentor me. I am at the beginning of the journey i.e. I am researching the tests that need to be done beforehand

Hello and welcome! Not wanting to be a killjoy, but you may be best waiting for your health test results before getting your hopes up too much about breeding.
Would the breeder of your bitch mentor you?

The breeder doesn't seem to be interested. I think waiting for the health tests results is a good idea though, so thank you

Just check our breeder hasn't put an endorsement on your bitch

How do I find out if there is an endorsement on my bitch? It wasn't mentioned by the breeder when we got her.

Ignore the last post, I have just checked my KC Owner Registration Certificate and there are none

Just an option - have you thought about going to a couple of dog shows?  A good place to find responsible breeders to befriend.  You could approach people once they see you have a genuine interest in the dogs being shown.

You might even take your girl to Ringcraft classes where you could learn to show your girl at her best.  If she is worthy of breeding from, she may well catch the eye of a knowledgeable person who could give you advice.  It would be a good start for you.

Is there a specific reason you want to breed from your bitch ? Have you shown her successfully or do you do canine activities with her that she is successful in ? Did you inform the breeder that your intention was to breed fron her in the future when you got her ?

I'm surprised that there are no endorsements on her KC registration, most responsible breeders endorse ALL their puppies, doesnt stop the puppies been bred from of course, but it prevents their puppies from being KC registered.

Health testing is a must for your bitch & any dog you eventually use. Hip & elbow scoring is essential as in DNA screening is slso.an essential is is DNA testing for  Degenerative myelopathy & contstant examination for Dermoid sinus they should be daily testing for
