We started our puppies, towards the end of week 3 if they were doing well, using warmed goats milk. Teaching them to lap individually. And a thumb nail amount of lean raw mince once a day to begin with. Once they could all do this, we added a good quality puppy food, mixed with either goats milk, or warmed water, into a porridge. Ditto with helping each individual puppy to get used to eating this individually. After that it was putting a purpose made puppy dish(es) down in the box.
Mum was always fed OUTSIDE the box so the puppies couldn't bother her. Initially they were still taking most of their nourishment from mum btw - she'd stand to allow nursing however, going into the box to clean up after the puppies had finished their meals.
Water was made available in a shallow dish once onto solids.
And FOR SURE it's this time that the work really starts - and it's full time, not just somebody popping in. If only for constantly cleaning the box!!
We only put out puppies outside, by 4+ weeks if the weather was warm which at this time of year, it won't be!
