I took my bunch to the groomer around 6 weeks ago. Since then they have been really, really itchy.
It started with only one who I took to the vet and was told it was suspected to be severe allergies and a bacterial Infection. He prescribed apoquel, ear drops and and a medicated shampoo to use twice weekly for 3 weeks. I was told to come back at 5 weeks to reassess whether her issues stopped and then returned once the meds stopped.
In that time, the others have all started to itch just as badly, if not worse. One has practically bitten herself raw as far up her legs and back as possible, leaving a wirey, sparse coat. The vet has prescribed more shampoo for the others as we now feel that the groomer either failed to ensure all the product was rinsed out or that they have reacted badly to the 'perfume' used at the end.
This has worked to some extent as the white film that was covering their coats has gone and the fur feels better on all except the youngest.
What else can I give them to help relieve the itching? They are fine with Piriton but am I OK to give it daily until they are comfortable enough not to scratch the scabs? Is there anything I can use to stop the drying out of the scabs that causes the skin to tighten and then itch? Can I use something like savlon on the parts that can't be licked?
With so many dogs and all requiring help, I'm looking at alternatives. I've dropped a lot of money at the vet over the past 5-6 weeks so woulds appreciate some help.
Although we use a natural prevention method and I don't use chemical wormers/flea medication, I can confirm that they do not have fleas.
Thanks
