I was brought up with pekes in the 60s. They honestly looked like a different breed. More like a Tibetan Spaniel. I hate what has been done to them. Ours used to have a smooth top coat not this ridiculous mess of fluff they have to heave around nowadays. Their faces were more defined with a little muzzle.
They were bouncy, happy, keen little dogs
and great fun with us children.
The last one we had,bought in the late 80s,had a coat that seemed to be more akin to a sheep’s fleece.
Once a year in the warmer months would sheer it off much to her delight - she would run about very pleased with herself-and she wore a little knitted jacket if it was cooler and at night.
