I have seen some at discover dogs and the odd show.they arnt very common who certainly behave and can breathe well. There is quite a lot of work going on according to one one breeder to improve the breed .or should I say return the breed to a healthy dog. Nice to see. In a strange way I find them appealing

How do you know the dog hasn't been operated on to ease it's breathing, after all it is the USA where there are no bans on dogs being shown that have had life altering operations ?. I suppose u don't in these circumstances but I was cheered by the discussion I had at DD and the dogs I saw.

I was brought up with pekes in the 60s. They honestly looked like a different breed. More like a Tibetan Spaniel. I hate what has been done to them. Ours  used to have a smooth top coat not this ridiculous mess of fluff they have to heave around nowadays. Their faces were more defined with a little muzzle.
  They were bouncy, happy, keen little dogs
and great fun with us children.
  The last one we had,bought in the late 80s,had a coat that seemed to be more akin to a sheep’s fleece.
Once a year in the warmer months would sheer it off much to her delight - she would run about very pleased with herself-and she wore a little knitted jacket if it was cooler and at night.
