When my Golden is lying on the floor and wants fuss or attention he will look at me and tap his foot repetedly on the floor.  If he is on the sofa he waves his leg at me. My previous Golden did exactly the same thing but the other two dogs he lived with  (Lab and Maremma) never did anything like it.  Just wondered is this a Golden "thing" or do any of your dogs do it too?

Not had that with any of my goldens, usually it’s a nudge under the elbow especially when I’ve got a drink in that hand

I wonder if it’s something you’ve unconsciously got the dogs to do? Goldens seem more tuned in to their owners then other breeds I’ve owned (aware that this is just my experience and others might think quite differently).

I’ll have a think for a while about what my goldens do to get me to do something they want, especially a fuss

Not a golden, but I taught my dog to 'look at me' before I would allow him to take his food, be sent for a retrieve etc. Now he comes and stares at me with a very intense stare, all the time Especially when I am working. I can 'feel' him staring at me .. lol

I get the look especially if I am eating a yoghurt ! The pot is hers

One of my goldens always had the apple core when I had finished. She got to know exactly when I was getting to the point of finishing the apple and ready to give her the core. Why waste energy and dozing time getting up too early and having to wait seemed to be her mantra

its odd, Brooke is the same , she must count the scrapes in the pot before she decides to come and give me the eye , for attention I get a muzzle under my arm , plays havoc with typing or if |I have drink in my hand or a paw on my knee. sounds like they came out the same place Jodi except Brooke is flattie :)

They are related a long way back, flatcoats played a part in the development of goldens. All my goldens have had one or two single black hairs in their coats

In my breed we get the "Bernese" paw !! preferably down your arm, thigh or hand with hard claws. Not easy to ignore !!

Back in the 1960's, my GR male had a spot of black hair the size of a 10 pence coin next to his bottom lip. (He was very well bred).

My Fay will sit and stare (if the legs are up on the recliner it's perfect chin resting height for dogs) if that don't work she will start pitting her paw on you. If they still don't work she will sometimes just jump up on your lap and stick her face right in your face or lick you (she knows we hate licking) There's no ignoring a vallhund.

Her son Cain is less subtle, he will just go straight to climbing on you and shove his face in your face, or a toy in your face. He also likes to hip bounce you when he wants a butt scratch. In the mornings or when your on the loo he will roll around on your feet as well.

My Golden stares at me when he wants/needs my attention. On the very rare occasion when he needs to go out in the night he will come into my bedroom and just stand next to the bed staring at me until I wake up. I have no idea how I realise he is doing this when I am out for the count but it works every time and I I wake up in the pitch black and just know he is there.

When I am getting the food ready for the dogs he stands behind me at a respectful distance and if he deems I am taking too long he very gently pokes me with his nose.

My BC will paw at me if he wants my attention and I am sitting down. If I am standing up he will stand on his hind legs in front of me.

Our terrieriest just does the zoomies, or barks, or leaps up and down - you are never left in any doubt at all that he wants something

That golden stare is remarkably effective. My last one was particularly good at it and, like you, I have been woken from a deep sleep by this dog staring at me from across the room. And, yes, she did want to go out

My Golden is a tele star Telepathic when he needs me to wake up, teleports his food and telegantly wonderful

My four have body clocks that are so accurate it’s unreal. The golden retriever stare x4 is impossible to ignore and it’s always bang on time.

It can be quite unerving to wake up in the middle of the night with a pair of eyes about two inches away from your face!

My first golden was quite a character. If that penetrating stare didn’t work, she would gently take you by the wrist and tow you to whatever she wanted, the door to go out or her food bowl.
If she was in a fussy mood and kept wanting to be stroked, I would close my eyes. Peeping carefully through my eye lashes I could see her staring at my eyes for several seconds before deciding I must have gone to sleep so she would go off and lie down giving a fed up sigh. Worked every time.

Most of my Papillons will drop a toy on your lap, and if ignored will bark. The Malinois are very much for sticking their heads underneath one of your arms and pushing it up.

My funniest dog though is Fen, a Malinois. Often when my husband has had him out he will run back inside at speed, go to whichever room I am in, which will usually have the door closed. He will open the door, wait for his little friend Pearl, a small crossbreed, to follow him, then he quickly slams the door shut with a bark to make sure none of the other dogs can follow. That certainly gets my attention!! In particular if I am in the bath, or if I am in bed and they run in covered in mud, jumping all over me.
