Health / 6 month old puppy is at the vets with severe kidney failure (locked)

Oh I really hope he pulls through! No useful advice, but I will be praying for a happy outcome. x
Bit of an update;
I went back to see him Friday night and he had gone downhill rapidly. Saturday/Sunday, his bloods were significantly better with most his kidney values back in the normal range, but in himself, he was obviously feeling a lot worse and not eating again. He looked a bit brighter when I visited yesterday lunchtime, but was obviously very weak and still not eating. His liver values were not good, which was not being helped by his fasting, but he won't eat because he feels ill. They fitted a nasogastric tube yesterday afternoon and last night he did look chirpier, but I wasn't allowed to take him out.
Waiting for the vet to call today.
It's now been 9 days since he fell ill. If it was a toxin he ingested, it is now rather irrelevant what it was. If it wasn't a toxin, then we still don't know the reason for his illness and as such still have no idea if he will get better.
This boy has broken my heart so many times this week. Please keep your fingers and paws crossed for him.
Keeping everything crossed for a full recovery hopefully soon. Xx

Poor lad, do hope he improves very soon and is back with you to further his recovery.
Fingers and paws still crossed

I have everything crossed for you xxx
A dog walker I know who lives near me has gone through exactly the same thing with her golden lab, the story is identical. Even had exploratory surgery. She has pulled through but it was really touch and go and is thankfully fine now. She is convinced it was something her dog had eaten outside because she is a scavenger. Really hoping that you have the same outcome.

Everything crossed for a good outcome

Everything crossed for your boy
Keeping all fingers and paws crossed and sending hugs

Maybe if his bloods are better he will feel better again soon, if they are supporting him with a tube in the meantime. Fingers crossed!

Update: The vets got to him yesterday morning to find that he had removed his feeding tube and drip was was feeling much better. They have been feeding him tiny amounts every hour and he's been eating enthusiastically. I went to see him last night and looked fantastic and was being really naughty - YAY!!!
Now, I know that I shouldn't get my hopes up too much as he did this on Friday and crashed again, but it was so good to see him bouncing about.
Running bloods first thing this morning. Please, please keep the positive vibes coming x

Drum roll...............................HE'S HOME!!
He pulled his drip out again on Friday and was bouncing off the walls so they decided to send him home. Other than being stick thin, you really wouldn't know that there was anything wrong with him. He's being soooo naughty- it's great!! I have spend all weekend squeezing him. I don't think he can believe he's home either; he fell asleep with me on the sofa watching Babe on Saturday. When he woke up, he looked a bit confused, looked at me and went nuts leaping all over me. I know he's not out of the woods yet, but seeing him like this, and having him home is amazing.
The vet's can't believe he's alive!
Thank you all so much for your support. Please keep sending positive vibes for a continued recovery x
That is just the BEST news! So happy for you. Stay well now little pup! Xx

Still a complete mystery unfortunately. Which means that forevermore I will be watching him like a hawk. In fact, I may make him a bubble wrap suit with breathing apparatus, safety glasses and steel toes cap boots ;-)

This is a bit how I felt after 2 or our 4 cases of GDV. Everytime I put food down, my heart was in my mouth for quite some months afterwards.

> I thought youngster, time of year = Mushrooms.
Me too keep going back to that based on what my friend experienced with her two Min.Schnauzers out in Winnipeg - Canada. I can't seem to go to page 1 of this thread, but I think I wrote about how sick they both were - and the clue they had was finding bits of mushroom in their vomit, initially. It certainly is the 'right time of year'. Had that not happened, they'd have been none the wiser about what caused them to be so ill.
