Topic Dog Boards / General / Looking for Jay Clarke/Weetman
- By JennaB [gb] Date 25.09.18 12:44 UTC
I'm hoping someone can help, my parents brought an American Cocker Spaniel puppy from Jay back in March, she said she would forward on all the paperwork, but we havent heard anything, wondering if anyone knows how I can contact her, I see from this website she may have married/changed name from Clarke to Weetman, so wondering if anyone can provide me up to date contact details.  I have tried her email I found from this site, but havent heard anything back yet.

Many thanks

My parents brought a puppy from you last March (2017) on the mothers day weekend.  A brown and white American Cocker Spaniel.  They are still awaiting the Kennel Club registration details and any documents of ownership relating to Lilly.  They have tried to contact you but the email they had bounced back and the landline number isnt working, but most people dont use landlines any more!

I'm contacting you really as this will be Lillys third season and mum has been ohhhing and ahhhing about breeding Lilly just the once so she can have puppies as I think they really just want a new baby in the house!  But obviously without any documentation, they dont even know where to begin!

Would you be able to contact me by email, or even give me a call on ***

Many thanks

Do you have the registered names of the parents?

If so it is possible to look up their details and see if a litter was registered with the kennel Club.

Regards breeding, there is a lot more to consider than the age of the bitch (for most breeds 2+).

There are health tests to be done, such as hip scoring eye testing under the BVA schemes.  Also DNA tests are now available for some hereditary diseases in many breeds.

Then you would need to find a compatible mate.

Would they know what they were aiming for in a litter, and the risks involved, and then the on-going responsibilities for the puppies that are sold.

A one off litter can be very expensive in money, time and heartache and often it is much simpler and less expensive to buy another puppy.

Contact the KC to try to find out if any puppies were registered in 2017.

Where did your parents find out about the litter & if advertised did it state the puppies are KC registered? If it did your parents should inform their local trading standards.

Was the bitch microchipped by the breeder? That might be a way to find out more about the bitch's breeding.

Looking at the dogs that have been registered with their kennel name Tisajs non seem to have had any health testing done !

If the puppy was bought 'registered with the KC' with the appropriate fee, then the KC needs to be contacted and made aware of this situation.  At the very least.

As for taking a litter from her, IF this is just to have another puppy in the house, then why put her in whelp (which can be risky!) when it would be way better, in my view, to find another reputablel breeder and buy another puppy.

Well, since looking into it today after the first response, it really doesnt seem as straight forward as my mum thinks, so I have advised her of all the info I have found so far.  So I think she is changing her mind.  However, she is obviously still interested in all the documentation relating to her dog.  She has remembered the "Breeding name" is Tisajs, but that is all we know.
I can look into contacting the KennelClub, but I dont want to get anyone in to trouble if it is just a case of a misunderstanding/lost details.

Have checked the name 'Tisajs'  on MYKC - looks as though she's not registered a litter since 2011.

Of course, she could be using another Affix

Has your mother any paperwork at all?
- By JennaB [gb] Date 25.09.18 15:53 UTC
Hi,  Im not sure how I came about this page, but that is the first thing I saw and have emailed that address too, last week, but not had a response yet.
- By JennaB [gb] Date 25.09.18 15:54 UTC
No paperwork at all.  She told my mum her breeding "name" was Tisajs and thats pretty much all I have to be honest.

You really do need to contact the KC. Dogs with this Kennel Name have been involved in breeding designer cross breeds with Poodles under a puppy farmer Kennel Name !!!!! Janjaz

Mum says the puppy was for sale on pets4homes

> Mum says the puppy was for sale on pets4homes

Has she anything in writing.  Has she kept a copy of the advert that says pups will be Kennel club registered???

When picking up the puppy  did she get any paperwork at all.  One would expect a written pedigree and a Puppy Sales contract, and if KC papers not yet to hand (sometimes there are technical reasons for papers being late), then a written document stating papers will be forwarded on??

If she has any of these then she could take the breeder to Trading Standards.  Like with any purchases, if it is missold she has a case.

What are the pedigree names of the two parents from the Pedigree???  We could double check to se if a litter is registered from them at the KC as at present it seems none have been using the kennel name you gave, but of course the parents may be bought in, and for some reason she didn't use her own Kennel name to register.

There are reasons why a pedigree litter may not be registered. they may in fact not be pedigree registered parents.  The bitch may be too young, too old or already had 4 litters, or had two C sections before this litter.

If the bitch was not bred by them they may have breeding restrictions on them, and there may be ownership issues if there were any partnerships, or issues with stud owner.

Sadly there are many disreputable people selling puppies as KC registered when they are not as they know many people after they get the puppy home will not care/forget the promised papers, which if they exist may be kept or sold to legitimise a non pedigree animal later as pedigree, or to use to overbreed a bitch, pretending pups are from the one on the paperwork.

I've found her now guys thank you.

She says she only registers a litter if the puppies are for a friend for breeding or showing and that my mum must have been mistaken.

Hum.   This sounds like 'money motivated' (saving the cost of registration!).   Good breeders want to register their litters, if only to keep breed records up to date.

That is ridiculous the cost of registration is minimal, less than £20.  The true reason is more likely less ethical.

Most puppies bred are destined to go to purely pet homes where the papers will never be used. With registration you have access to your dogs ancestry, and can research their health status etc.

I would be unhappy with this breeder and her ethics. However mum has her dog and is .happy i hope all health tests were done and she remains fit and well and deciding not to breed would be very sensible. Pups couldn't be registered in any case and she won't know anything about Lilly's  pedigree

> That is ridiculous the cost of registration is minimal, less than £20.

I'm sorry but BYBs try to make every pound count and what for some, may appear to be minimal, could be significant to others, at least until sale proceeds start rolling in

Could be the parents weren't registered so their puppies can't be.   And years ago (maybe) rather than stick endorsements on litters, breeders didn't sell with the paperwork.  Not that either won't stop people taking a litter from a bitch if they don't care.....
- By Tommee Date 27.09.18 15:27 UTC Upvotes 1
So that's why she has"t registered any puppies for years ??? Yer right I believe her NOT, an old puppy farmer's trick so there is no record of the litter & no way of proving who owned the mother etc
- By weimed [gb] Date 28.09.18 19:24 UTC Upvotes 6
no paper trail so no tax, no licence for breeding, no restrictions on how many litters the poor mother dog has to have.no records for new owner to check status of health tests of parent dogs.  puppy farmer.
my advice is get the pup on lifetime insurance policy and do it now.  hopefully pup will have a long and healthy life but it would be prudent to insure at least until fully grown as many health issues can pop up in first 2 years .
- By Brainless [gb] Date 29.09.18 10:45 UTC Upvotes 1
I will ecjoe the Insurance aspect, as so much bad breeding is got away with as the effects often don't materilaise until uyears later when the animal is a much loved companion.

I see so many dogs walking around who have severe joint issues and are old before their time, when I have DOGS MOST PEOPLE CONSIDER OLD 10+ still doing the same level of exercise as when young, stil competitively shown.  Even my 15 year old can do miles, but over last few months have reduced to Park walks only so we go at a slower speed than are very brisk road walks.

I believe their good health and temperament is down to some luck, but also that I now have had more than 8 generations of full hereditary health testing, and selection for sound temperament.
