Topic Dog Boards / Health / Chipped tooth

Hi
I've just noticed that one of my dogs has chipped the top of one of his canine teeth.  H'e a veteran, so not a youngster by any means.  It's only the very top, you wouldn't really notice it unless you were looking for it.  I don't think it's hurting him, he's eating fine and is not miserable.  No idea when he did it. I'm reluctant to take him to the vet as I don't want then to start messing with it if it's not hurting him.  Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing and can offer any information?  Thanks.

Yep my gsd had the same from about a year old .That's why I don't give weight bearing bones. Learned that lesson the hard way
.oddly I was just talking to a relative whose gsd has done the same she is 8 years old  .advise from two different vets was just keep an eye on it .if it starts bothering  then a vet check. Sadly I lost my boy in April at nearly 11 but the tooth was never an issue

Thanks. We never give them bones or anything that could potentially chip the teeth.  Can only think he's bumped it or perhaps was done via a vigorous game of tug with the other dog.

I feed raw and they need bone but not those big hard ones

I also meant to say on my previous reply that I'm sorry about the loss of your boy.

My Beardie broke the tip off one of her canine teeth. She died at 14 and it never gave her a minutes bother.

My Border Collie is 13 years old, and has a chipped tooth.  It's never bothered him.
