Yesterday I went to the boarding kennels where we house our rescued Labradors( Lab Rescue) Janice my friend and I were concerned about a greyhound,he is a lovely dog he was laid in his bed shivering with the cold,he has a scar running from his forhead round under his eye and off his cheek, where he was hit by a spade by his owner, the RSPCA has prosecuted the owner and now this dog is patiently waiting for a home,he is such a sad looking dog,and his scar makes your heart break, can anyone help at all with a home for this dog,the kennels are good but they dont put heating on in the day as all the trap doors are open, the rspca seem in no hurry to push for a home for him he could be forgotten there please help if you can or if you have any warm bedding or coats he could wear he has one now put it keeps falling off perhaps one of those zip up things or can you tell me where I could buy one, sorry to ramble...

Awww mattie. That's awful. Would a fleecy blanket or something help? Let me know. E-mail me with where I could send it and I'll sort something out at lunchtime. Just don't tell my hubbie!

Mattie, please email me. I'll be happy to send you a cheque for a sweater coat for him. Does he get along with other dogs and what part of the country is he in? I'll certainly try to help place him. I'd have to really do a lot of talking to convince Jon to take on a foster dog since we have three and the youngest is 11 weeks old now, but I'll do what I can.

I have been in contact with TIA Greyhound Rescue and they are sending me a blanket coat to forward to you for the dog so I will also include a cheque to be used for bedding or whatever you think would make the dog more comfortable. Deb at TIA asked that I make sure that the dog is not in danger of being euthanized and ensured that he would be more than welcome at their rehoming kennels if it became a problem. These are great people and will also be getting a donation from us. Please let me know what address to send the coat to and it and a cheque will go out in the mail the same day that I receive it.

It is very heartwarming to see that already offers of help have flooded in. I was reading yestarday an article on the late Celia Cross a fabulous lady who dedicated over 30 years to helping and re-homing greyhounds. I got my first greyhound from her nearly 12 years ago - actually Tess is still with me at over 14 years old! I know that they can be difficult dogs to home, even these days despite so much good publicity about them, and I can't help thinking that he might be better off in a specialist greyhound rescue rather than with the RSPCA, but I know that the RSPCA usually are unwilling to hand dogs over to the appropriate breed rescue's. I do hope this chap finds somewhere warm and cozy very soon. Please keep us posted..

I agree about the specialist greyhound homing versus the RPCA. I'm not really sure what qualifications the RPCA will want a home to have. Anyone have any clues?

The greyhound I discover is a bitch ( silly me)about four years old possibly spayed been at the kennels ten weeks and is a fantastic nature in spite of her horrendous injury, she is light tan in colour Im going to take some photos tommorow, apparantly the RSPCA will be happy to release her to a loving secure home but obviously need to do their checks,Thanks to all who have offered help, lets try and get her out soon

If I didnt work full time and had more room at home I would love to take on a greyhound or two. I looked after one for soemone once when she went on holiday and she was a delight. I'm hoping when I move I will then be in a position to help in that way. Please keep us posted as to her plight!
