Topic Dog Boards / Health / Does Metacam need refrigerating?

I don't think it does but I've just ordered some more online and I am rather concerned about the high temperatures across the country (much as it's far better here today in the SW - just wish these clouds would let it RAIN!).   It's coming from Animed who are in Diss, Norfolk.

I found one place online that said it does (refrigerating) and another who says no it doesn't.    I'm not refrigerating it here at home.

That's a good question, MamaBas.  One of my dogs is on Metacam, so having read your post I rang my vets', the receptionist asked the vet, whose answer was "no, keep it in a cupboard out, of direct sunlight and below 30 degrees.  Do not refrigerate."

(I'll be interested to read other responses.)

I keep all meds that are liquid or ointment in the fridge.

Just checked the leaflet with Zumas Loxicom - basically the same stuff - and it says 'no special storage required'. His bottle sits in the open carton on the back of the kitchen worktop, tucked round a corner from the window

Nothing on the info on mine except last for 6 months once opened Google's to check and says room temperature
. I asked this question of my vet about ear drops and was told no in that case as it increases viscosity and which makes it more tricky to put into the ear and the extra cold could be uncomfortable. I know that has nothing  to do with medicam but shows how we should read Instructions.

Just thought that may have sounded a bit rude I just meant I know o I am bad at reading  these things and a it's  good reminder to.check.

No, metacam is best kept at room temperature.

Thanks for the replies.   Mine is always on the shelf by my dog bowls, in the kitchen and not in the sun!   I was concerned re being affected in transit.   I asked Animed, but they didn't reply to that part of my email ..... it's a little less hot down here, for the past day, so hopefully it will be ok.

Over the years I've used Metacam many times - I have 3 on it at the moment!  I've never put it in the fridge.

My next bottle arrived this am and as down here at least (SW), it's been reasonably okay with temperatures so hopefully this bottle hasn't suffered!

I must say Animed is very efficient.
