My little of 11 pups are struggling with the unexpected heat they will be 4 weeks old on Friday we have been giving them some puppy milk but at a lower powder ratio and now putting in fresh water to keep them hydrated Mum is still feeding them aswell is there any recommendations you have to help with this unexpected heat to help keep them cool

I’ve only ever had to do this with one litter but it worked really well- fill up plastic water bottles and put in the freezer until fully frozen and then take them out and wrap in a thin dish towel and place in with the puppies - it’s especially good when they’re tired as they will gather round them to keep cool whilst they sleep! Make sure you have lots as they’ll obviously need replacing once they’ve defrosted

Got 3 fans on two in living room and one by there bed

We had a hot summer last time we raised a litter and I wet ours down a bit - just got a wet cloth and wiped their heads over.  They then stopped making noise and went to sleep, so I figured it worked.

Wouldn't do that if they were too young, but at 4wks, they should be able to regulate their own temperatures better by now and it should be fine.

Hot water bottles filled with cold water and wrapped in thin towels. The floppy shape means that the puppies can lie on them.

Bit on local radio about 'keepng cool in bed' suggestion was to make some cotton 'bags' part fill them with rice - presumably raw - then freeze them.
I suppose its a variation on the 'wheat-bag' hot water bottles

With the fan also freeze some plastic bottles of water wrap in a pillowcase and have the fan blowing across them (put them at the sides of whelping box/puppy pen.

I found that the fans I already had were insufficient for these temperatures.  I've just received this one and it's much more successful.  The dogs already look better.  The high velocity fans are great.

Maybe getting a portable air con unit?

Make sure you ONLY have windows open on the side of the house the sun isn't reaching.   I'm amazed at how many people with rooms facing the sun with the curtains back and windows wide open.   NO!!    Close the curtains (drapes) and windows on the side of the house facing the sun, especially in the afternoon.   I currently have all the house open (8.15 am) to allow what small amount of breeze there is, in.  I will soon be closing it all up again.

I'm considering buying one of those HV fans much as I have a big oscelating (? sp) one in the lounge and a small quieter on in the bedroom for use at night (or in the kitchen when working in there).

Wimbledon's coming - hopefully that's when this heat will be less.   Needless to say I HATE it.  Especially the humidity and glad I don't have puppies around right now.
