My beautiful girl has just been diagnosed with bladder cancer.Ive been given 2 options..to open her up to take a biopspy although they know its cancer and its all over the bladder( but to get chemo this would need to be done). Can anyone give me advice on what meds apart from metacam or even natural supplements i can give her?she is still enjoying her food( well chicken) and vets think she has a few months left, they said i will know when she has had enough..my heart is breaking, she is my best friend so any advice appreciated, thank you x

Oh I'm so bleeding for you.   One of my girls, our second last home-bred probably had this but it was never confirmed because our then vet faffed around re a diagnosis.   He insisted that scanning was enough and refused to x-ray.  This began with repeated UTIs which did respond to treatment, but then returned.   That vet, part of a big Practice said he had nothing more to offer at one stage, saying he'd send us up to Bristol for further investigation.   At the time I not only spoke with my wonderful vet back up country (she said she'd have opened her up let alone x-ray) and took a second opinion of my sister's vet - ditto x-ray.   When the needed x-ray was done by the senior partner of the original vet, her chest cavity was riddled with growths and by then her legs had swollen alarmingly, so given she was over 12, we opted to give her peace.

She was given pain killing meds, Metacam and then Tramadol which sent her loopy so she came off that fast.    By the last day, I could see in her eyes she was pleading with me to let her go.   Hardest thing, well one of, I'd had to do with my hounds and even sadder was this was the end of my line, leaving her brother distraught at being the only one left, apart from my hurting.

Just as with mine, you WILL know when life has become too hard to hear.  Not that makes this terrible decision easier.

Oh how sad..they really do tug at our heart strings. The other option is metacam but im looking in to other options, the vet told me what to look out for when she has had enough but i know this girl like the back of my hand,i will know when she has had enough x

You could try CBD oil and golden (turmeric) paste and/or prednisolone (steroid), all of which can help to slow growth and ease pain.  Feeding a no-starch diet might help too, as starchy carbs feed cancers.  I switched my last sufferer to raw when he was diagnosed with fibrosarcoma in his face a year ago.  That combined with the paste, CBD and steroids all slowed the growth right down and gave him more time before it grew too large.

They are all anti-inflammatory too, which made a big difference to his comfort level.

Thank you! Im in the middle of trying to find out the best place to buy CBD oil snd i will change her food,a little bit more time would be precious x

Have a look at simply cbd. Brian the owner of the company is very knowlegable and also has dogs and runs a dog rescue.  The keto diet may be worth looking into but as Nikita says removing carbs which is to fine for dogs is a good way to go

I have a beautiful girl diagnosed with liver cancer only this Monday.  I have sobbed a thousand tears.

The vet said the same as yours, and I have promised him that I won't let her go on longer than she should.  The problem is, she just wouldn't eat, and being a tiny breed, it can't go on, or I shall have to say goodbye sooner.  The vet suggested prednisolone, just as Nikita suggests.  So very pleased, as she has had really decent meals today.  She is bounding round like a loon and is so happy.  I just don't want to lose her - but wanting doesn't help.

I really feel for you.  It is so bloody difficult and I'm crying just typing this.  My thoughts are with you.

Omg Jean im so sorry how sad, your poor baby. Its so hard,my dogs are my babies and i simply cant imagine life without her.Her back legs are starting to go,the x ray didnt show up anything so they think its simply connected to the cancer.she hasnt eaten all day but had a sedation so im hoping thats the reason, ive bought a load of chicken in for her cos i know she loves that.i hope you get some extra time with your baby, time is so precious xxx
