Hello ,

First time posting on here , I just tend to read and hide  . I've been recording her temps for a few days already (we're now day 58, previously whelped days 58 & 60). She's usually pretty easy to read and has a clear drop . However this time she's all over the place . She is making me nervous as last time she had a poorly presented pup and required an emcs . Such a shame as her first litter which was bigger she shelled like peas ! Can the lovely ladies / gents that have much more wisdom please give their opinions on her temps so far please !

13/6 37.9
14/6 37.8 , 37.4
15/6 37.3 , 37.4
16/6 37.6 , 37.6
17/6 9am 37.0 ,1pm 38.0 ,4pm 37.8

I've taken extra temps today as she had the low temp followed by a higher temp . But she's thrown me with these random temps . She's otherwise bright and happy . Eating , drinking , toileting and playing with the others .

In 45+ years I have never, ever relied on temperature taking.  They whelp when it's time.

Hi Jean,

I have not relied solely on temps in the past . It's just nice to have a guideline . Previously she's only ever had a drop for a small window. I was lucky to catch her drop . She also was still hyper and scoffing everything in sight

Random temps just mean it's not time yet.  If you look back at other recent posts, I've said there how to use temps... You need to be doing it 4x a day and you need 2 consecutive temps that have dropped - not just one.

Hi 1234

Thanks . I'd read your comments in others posts . I went to 6hrly temps last night .

6pm 37.8
12am 37.3
6am 37.0
12pm 37.4

She was a bit frantic last night but settled . Has milk and her tail end is very puffy . Belly dropped (although this is third litter!), muscles dipped at base of tail , minimal clear mucus . I'm over thinking it and worrying as had very big puppies last time . X

Try not to stress, it will only make everything more tense for both of you.  :)

The days she whelped last time, don't really mean anything for predicting when she will whelp this time as it all comes down to when ovulation/fertilisation was and when she entered diestrus.  Without cytology (slides) to determine diestrus and without establishing ovulation through progesterone, it will be very hard to predict.  Semen can live at least 5 days after a mating, so you could take the last day of your last mating and add 5 days, to determine something approaching the latest date - but if you don't have all the info, best not to get stressed... it will happen when it happens!
