Topic Dog Boards / Health / Superficial ulcers on inside of dog’s cheek.

Hi . Last week I took Saffi to the vet. She’s been given two injections a steroid and anti inflammatory. The ulcers are getting smaller and she’s feeling a lot better. Wondered if anyone has had this with their dog, what the cause was and the outcome?

It's a total new one on me!  Hopefully someone will come along with some experience of this.

Hi JeanSW. Found out from a fellow dog walker (ex vet nurse) that it’s a “viral infection!” ( isn’t everything unknown classed as that!) Saffi initially had sickness and diarrhoea which made her a bit run down and probably lacking in vitamins. Hence as in us humans, ulcers form! After a rather poorly week Saffi seems now to be back on form! ( i.e up to mischief!) Thanks for your reply Jean. Hopefully this info will be of help to others.

So pleased that Saffi is back to her mischievous self.

There is also an autoimmune condition called Pemphigus, would be worth researching should it recur.

Thank you. I will research it.
