Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Pee'd on his new bed!

I bought 5mth old Nugget a new bed, and within 5 minutes he peed on it! He must have been very discreet as i didnt notice him doing it, and i was sitting right next to him.

I'm thinking he decided to mark it, even though he is still so young... He has been house trained for a couple of months. He didn't cock his leg, it must have been a low squat and dribble.

Is this a male thing? An incomplete house training problem?

I have only ever had female dogs in the past, and have never dealt with inappropriate peeing. He did once wee on our bed, right on top of where our cat was laying a few minutes earlier. Which again makes me think it's a marking behaviour.

I immediately cleaned his bed, but then hubby said "don't bother, he'll just remark it".

What are your thoughts?

I'd suggest he was 'owning' his bed.   It's a darned nuisance, but by no means do all male dogs do this - mine might avoid a new bed for a while and I tended to use an old cover on a new bed so it was still familiar.   Maybe you might try this?

It's a bloody nuusance! I cleaned his bed and put his  blanket over it and am watching him like a hawk when he's anywhere near it!

My daughters 41/2 year entire husky has never marked inside. But my first male dog is definitely a pee pee boy. He's been cocking his leg aaalll over on our walks since he was 4mths old, but still squats in our garden
