Has anyone experienced this with a bitch that is not spayed? I have a girl who is 2 years old, otherwise totally fit and well but when she sleeps she is leaking quite a bit. She has had antibiotics and urine tested clear.
I’m not sure what the next step should be, obviously I will talk to my vet about it but just looking for suggestions I can raise with her. I should add, this only started after her first season in January.
One of my girls had an incontinence issue briefly after one of her seasons, may have been when she was 2 years old too. It lasted 3-4 days, and never happened again. Reading about it, people say it is hormonal imbalance following a season.
In your girl's case, if I understand correctly her first season came when she was 2 years old this is quite late, and so it's possible that the hormones in her body has gone haywire and that's why her incontinence "stuck". I personally would not do anything radical, maintain healthy lifestyle for her and wait until her next season, there is a chance the problem could disappear I think.

Thank you. Yes she was extremely late having her first season. Hopefully it is just that, but it’s gone on for a few months now. Not very nice for her and I also feel like all I am doing is washing dog beds!

Has she always had this problem? If so, it could be an ectopic ureter which would suggest surgical intervention though not always successful long term. Laser treatment is another possibility. Usually, though, this condition is apparent from birth. There are meds. for incontinence which maybe you could try short term to see if the condition improves. Bitches do get very sore and ulcerated if they constantly have urine leaking.

No, it only started after her first season, she was absolutely fine before.
It’s not constant as such, but whenever she relaxes totally and sleeps then some leaks, it can range from a small drop to a huge puddle.
Has anything major happened in the family? 2 years ago my then 2yr old girl was on a walk with me and my mum and my mum had a big accident and broke 3 out of 4 of her bones in her ankle. It was very traumatic for us all and the ambulance had to come etc. That night I went back to my house and for my sake I let her sleep on my bed with me and when I woke up there was a massive puddle of wee. This had never happened before ever! Me and my girl moved back to my mums as she was bed bound and then needed help walking etc. She would be fine when she was awake but as soon as she was asleep and was relaxed she would wee and usually it would be quite a lot! It wouldn’t matter if you took her out to do one just before she slept, it would still happen. To cut a long story short we stayed at my mums for just over 3months and on the day my mum was able to walk on her own unaided without any support other than a normal shoe on her foot, my girl suddenly stopped weeing when she slept. And has never done it since! She’s a therapy dog and we all believe she was reacting to what had happened. It still amazes me now tbh

I should say we took her to the vet during that time and she had X-rays and everything, they couldn’t find anything wrong with the scans but were sure she had become incontinant due to what I told them. She’s now coming up to 4yrs old and we’ve never had any leakage or weeing since the day my mum was able to walk. So think of anything big or significant has happened around the time it started, fingers crossed it stops, those 3 months were a nightmare and yes it definitely felt I was washing beds constantly!
