In the middle of delivering. she has had 6 and sizes range from 6 oz to nearly 17 oz. The little one is so wee but is feeding ok. Will i need to give lactol from bottle or similar to supplement.
Thanks

Hope puppies and mum are doing well! I don't breed dogs but have bred persians, and with them I used to supplement a weaker kitten until it was strong enough to get in there with the bigger/stronger ones! My younger dog (Australian Shepherd) is now 10 months and weighs in at about 22kg, full of energy, fun and life! When he was born he weighed only 4 oz, and the breeder really didn't think he would make it! Luckily for me, he did!

It would be better for the pup to have only mums milk and make sure she gets the first full flow at each feed. Over the years I have had two tiny pups in a litter and both made sure they were well on and feeding and they did very well one is now 14.

put the little one on mum first, mum is best, you could top up the bigger ones, but with six or now 5 is it,mum should be able to cope with them with the milk,it when you have 9,10 or more is when the worry comes in.
good luck with the rest of the litter,

Thanks for the advice
We had 11 but one died 24 hours after a particularly traumatic birth. Ironically not any of the smaller ones. the little 6oz one now weighs 8 and a half and feeds quite well. The largest one is 20oz. Quite a difference but touch wood, all appear ok at the moments

I once had a pup 3 oz. I bottle feed them bec. my bitch has no milk. Anyway, the pup was the most aggressive and he's the one who eats a lot. But he never gained wait, he was too thin almost skin and bones, the vet thought he wouldn't live but i kept a close watch i almost never sleep! the reason was when he was born his skull is open, I think they call it open frontal. He was also a bit hydrocephalus. So even if he feeds a lot he never gained weight. I weaned him early ang gave him baby food then dog food that's when he gained a little weight but his skull closes i think when he was 2 and half month old. He's really playful now though although he's so tiny and cute!
