We have a 2 year old blue and tan border terrier. This coloured coat doesn't seem to behave the same as a grizzled coat and doesn't blow. We have him stripped but he never looks right and also the amount of hair he sheds is awful, I am constantly hoovering to keep on top of it. We have grandchildren and I am not happy with them crawling round the floors as they are always picking hair up. Is there a tool I can use to keep the hair down. I know your not supposed to use a furminator on a border although I have met people who do and their dogs coats were lovely. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

A Zoom Groom might work; they're brilliant on smooth coats and okay with a setter coat. Cheap enough to try anyway!

Diet can have a huge impact on shedding as well, so worth making sure he's on the best food you can get.
Our boy is raw fed so we know his diet is fine. He is fit and healthy but the shedding is just awful. Our house looks like it has tumbleweed under the furniture and in corners even though I am hoovering all the time?
Does a zoom groom cut the coat? As our border is stripped and not clipped we have been told not to use any tools that cut the hair as he will lose the coat colour?

Has your border terrier been neutered? If so this may well have affected his coat. If he is properly hand stripped it is probably undercoat which is being shed, the best way to remove this is with a rubber pad with small pimples, run this along the coat and the loose undercoat will cling to the pad like a mat, this can then be peeled off the pad and dropped in the bin.
Our dog has been neutered- had him done when he was 20 months. His hair has shed since he was about 6 months old. He goes to a groomer to be stripped but I know the blue and tan borders tend to have a single coat with long sparse top hair. He is brushed with one of those palm held brushes every day but makes no difference at all to his shedding.
