Hi everyone!

Great website has a wealth of info!

I'm in London, looking for a Black female Labrador Retriever puppy to give a new home to.

Will keep reading through the website to educate myself!

Raj

Golden retrievers are golden or yellow in colour.

Do you mean a flat coated retriever which has a different shape and they come in black and liver.
Have a look on this website under the breeders or puppy lists.
Make sure though that parents both are fully health tested and you chat and visit any breeder in advance to make sure you're happy.

The breed clubs will hold lists of reputable breeders and may also have local shows or events where you can meet the dogs, breeders and owners alike to speak to them to make sure it's the breed for you. You will need to know warts and all whatever breed you decide on.

Sorry just reread your post and you want a black lab. Again the same rules apply. There is a massive difference in type and levels of energy between the show/pet lines and working lines. You will need to work out what typw you want in terms of your lifestyle.

There are some great breeders about for both types.

Make sure both parents are hip and elbow scored, pra and bva eye tested and also DNA tested for EIC.

Hi everyone!

Just a quick question - my husband and I are shortly going to buying a black lab Pup but want to go for a big chunky dog / would you suggest a show or working breed? We live in the countryside so will be able to give our lovely new pet plenty of exercise and stimulation. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Why not locate a reputable breeder, via the Breed Club, and find yourself a carefully bred and reared puppy.   I'd not be convince that there should be a show vs working type.   I'd want something typical of the breed, above anything else.   Make sure you look at the parents, and if possible because it's significant, the grandparents re how a puppy might turn out and if you locate a good breeder, they should be able to advise you so you get what you want, hopefully.

Hi MamaBas, thanks so much for this info - I will take a look at breeders now and see which are following those high standards.

Many thanks indeed

There absolutely is a very big difference between most show and working lines in labradors. Both physicially and tempermentally.
