Hi, new To this site. I have an almost 6 month old Siberian husky, she had an operation a week ago for two ectopic ureters. Just wondered if there's anyone else on here whose dog has been through the same op???? She's still dripping urine when at rest and urinating all the time, everywhere. At this moment in time the whole situation feels worse than before the op. The blood has stopped when she passes urine, she's eating & drinking well and fine in herself.

Anyone?

Wow, that must have been a major op.

I had a pup that had EU and had surgery at 4 months, having a kidney and urethra removed.  She did leak for a couple of days no longer.  Made an amazing recovery and has been fit and well ever since and is 10 1/2 now

My girl didn't lose blood when weeing, so that must be a bit of a worry.

I really hope all goes well with your girl, sadly too many of these puppies are PTS and not given the chance of a normal life.

Hi Nicky,
Would be interested to hear how you dog is getting on. I think my 10 week old cockapoo may have an ectopic ureter, and I'm worried sick, did your insurance cover the operations and how much did it cost? Any info would be much appreciated.

Hi Jo

Solar still leaks, though nowhere near as bad as before. There is one more op that can be done which she is due to have soon at the same time as being spayed. We have also changed her to a raw diet as she was kibble fed previously and drank absolutely loads, so this may have helped. - I am so sorry to hear you think your pup may have this too. Our insurance did eventually reimburse us for the operation but it really was an absolute nightmare,it was refused twice we then had to take it to their complaints dept who in the end accepted we weren’t aware of the condition so couldn’t be classed as pre disclosed!!! It has cost around £5000 and there is no guarantee this final op will be a success so she may still need meds for the rest of her life.

I was told not to have my bitch spayed after ectopic urethra surgery - she is nearly 11 now and doing well

We had to wait for her first season to see if this helped with her leaking. Made no difference whatsoever, so they have now advised this other op to pin her bladder & ureter into a higher position at the same time as her being spayed.

Hi Elle-Bells, its interesting that your dog had her kidney removed to cure this and has gone on to live a long and healthy life, was that her only option or just a simpler op rather than the tricky operation? Did your insurance cover you? Sorry for all the questions but really need some answers. How much did it all cost in the end? Thanks Jo.

Thanks for the reply, sorry to hear she's not 100% but hopefully the 2nd op will sort her out. Out of interest who are you insured with?

The urethra was damaged and therefore only real option was to remove kidney too
The reason not to spay is due to major surgery so close as some bitches after they are spayed develop a leak
As I bred this bitch, insurance didn't cover her, surgery wasn't that expensive
I believe there are easier types of surgery available now but I think it will depend on the severity of her abnormality

Ah I see, thank you. I don't think my insurance will cover it because I had taken her to the vets suspecting a uti and this was before my 14 days after taking out the insurance was up so therefore they will probably say it was a pre-existing condition.. I really can't afford the £5000 + quoted to rectify, so need to look for a cheaper solution. Thank you for taking time to answer, I appreciate it.
