Hi Everyone,

This is my first post so far. Ummm so basically. I am looking for a dog, not a hypoallergenic but a low shedding. When i input ‘low shedding dogs’ into google it only shows hypoallergic pups.

What i want to know is there any dogs from everyones own personal opinion that dont shed say as much as a husky or a samoyed. Like low to light medium.

Just ones i may not know about. I do love the labradoodle but basically every park i go to everyone has a variation of a poodle. So i was wondering if there is a different breed that not many people have that is low shedding.
Thanks everyone

The many Poodle crosses can never be guaranteed not to shed -some do, some do not -it's a lottery. A Poodle on the other hand will not! If you follow this link you will find a list from the KC of non shedding breeds:

I'm quite surprised they've not included the Whippet in that list (none of the Hound-breeds at all!!) - yes they do shed, but with their short fine coat, it's hardly noticable.   I'd imagine the short-haired Dachsies are similar?

I have a miniature schnauzer who is totally non shedding. Hair only comes out when hes groomed/combed. Standard schnauzers can be non or low shedding depending on the lines they come from. Giant schnauzers from what I know from others experience non shedding.

Don't forget some low shedding dogs e.g. poodle will require clipping professionally every few weeks.  so you will need to.factor that cost in unless you  learn to groom your dog yourself

I was thinking that re the Min.Schnauzer.   I had a friend in Canada who moved from Bassets into these and she seemed to be continually taking her 2 to her groomer.

The schnauzers can be quite high maintenance, depending on the cut they're kept in and the coat type.  A decent one is fairly coarse haired with straight hair, and won't be at the groomer half as much as some I've dealt with, which have really fluffy, fine hair and some almost curly (although they shouldn't be).  Those one mat up in a heartbeat and require a lot more work.  How long the hair is kept makes a difference as well, of course.

My whippets leave a sheen of fine hair on my sofas and I seem to be constantly washing their fleeces and vacuuming the furniture, they are very low odour though and a very welcome change from my GSD's, our BT's don't shed much although they do need to be stripped a couple of times a year.
