Hello. Could you give details of what you are trying to wean them on to please?

Hi I've got lactol milk which I tried first I also.added babyrice. I then tried puppydryfood soaked in water to soften them.. then I tried just grinding the puppy
Food which he seemed to really like.. but was very poorly yesterday so kept him off food. Just was on mums milk and vet gave me pro-kolin for him.
I also wormed him Saturday evening and am wondering if had an allergic reaction

Did you worm mum during pregnancy?  If not, and pup has worms, his wormer may make him a bit loose.  Pro-kolin is just the right thing.

As to feeding, at 5 weeks I would try giving him a morsel of raw mince, I bet he will take that off you!  Feed him it by hand.  Remember though, that it must have been frozen and defrosted first.  My pups would turn their noses up at dry food, moistened or not!

thanks for the advice.. I wormed mum just before being pregnant and then again two weeks ago!. Pup was, very lethargic wasn't feeding from mum and had very loose stools... It's a worming that you do over three days .but didn't do it yesterday So need to start tthe course again in a couple of days and am a bit scared!!

I dnt like the thought of raw meat no idea why though? Ha... why do you need to freeze it first ??... I will buy some .. as I really think he should be eating more by now... I have slowly been weaning him.for two weeks now . Mum still happyish to feed him but wnt lie with him so I feel he's not getting as much food as he should be!!!.
Also how do I get him to sleep longer at night??:..... zzzzz-zz

With our Bassets, we began the weaning process depending on how well they were doing, by the end of week 3 going into week 4.  Using warmed goats milk - initially most of their nourishment was coming from mum.   We'd do this 4 times a day.   Once they could all lap (some being fine from the get-go, others needing more encouragement) we mixed a good quality puppy food with either the goats milk or just warmed water, into a porridge.  Again we needed to help each pup individually but once they were all coping with that, and by this time we were well into the 4th week, we'd use one of those 'puppy wheel' dishes and put it on the floor of the box - with mum out!!   At this point we'd offer them a small amount of lean raw mince (not pre-frozen - fresh!) once a day - as much as would cover a thumb-nail.   The temptation was to give more because they woofed it down but at this point, their digestive systems would react so we waited for another week or two and then add it to one of the 4 meals a day they were having.   Mum went in after they'd finished, to clean up and allow what was really just comfort nursing, standing up.   Once she felt their sharp teeth, she'd want OUT  -fast.

We wormed our litters from week 2 and every 2 weeks to the time they went home, using a gentle worming syrup.   Mum was wormed with a regular wormer when we did the first puppy worming.   We used Sherleys.   We never had a bad reaction.   Mum was wormed before being bred at which time her boosters were brought up to date, if needed.

Is he growing well and is the rate of weight gain increasing?  If so he is getting enough to eat.

You MUST ensure it is frozen first, this will kill any nasties.  We don't need to freeze fresh mince for ourselves, because we are not going to eat it raw.  Well I hope not anyway.

With mine I had to soak the puppy food in the lactol milk, he wouldn't touch it if I soaked it in water. I slowley made the milk up weaker and weaker. Mine liked scrambled eggs so some meals were just the eggs and the some just the soaked food and the rest a bit of both.
I did find at first I had to actually sit there and spoon feed him other wise if I put a bowl down he would eat a tiny bit then wander off. I guess had he had litter mates it would have kept him Intrested maby. But once we started scrambled eggs he didn't need as much encouragement while they were in the bowl.

I made sure to get the food to him first before her got the chance to feed on mum (she chose not to sleep/stay in the box most of the time).

I used drontal puppy liquid perfectly fine the first two times then the third time he threw up after having it, gave it to a friend for her puppies as I had loads left and they were fine on it. A friend has heard of two litters in her breed having bad reactions to panacure

Omg really?.  It's meant to be one of the most sensitive ones.. I'm due to worm him again and not sure what to do . Vet said to leave it then try again starting g the course again over three days . It may not have even been the worming and just a fluke.. but still a little worried! ..I wormed him Saturday evening g .he became quite ill Sunday lunch time!!??

We added scrambled egg to our puppy meals, also cottage cheese and the raw mince.   Not all in the same meals!!
