Health / Do anyone know anything about proliferative thrombovascula?
Hi,
I know this is a long shot but do anyone of you know anything about proliferative thrombovascular necrosis?
My 18 month old girl has been diagnosed with this condition, my vets have never come across it before, so I'm looking for as much information as possible, in order to give her the best possible treatment, the web has very limited information on it, I'm assuming it's because it's so rare.

Very very rare have heard of a couple of cases in the USA in greyhounds. Affected part of the ears I think, think they survived. Not dogs that belonged to friends but they have the same breed
Hi Tommee,
It's effecting both of her ears, I've been offered a drug therapy for her which I have a lot of questions about, but can't find the answers.
The only other option I've been give is to remove both of her ear flaps surgically.
I really hoped I would find someone who had either been in the same situation my girl is in, or knew more about the condition.

I did a search on this because I'd not heard of it before, and found information re ears, but not much! Obviously rare means rare if nobody has much info. to contribute to this thread. Over to the vet eh. Let him do the searching for info.!
Hi MamaBas,
I've found myself trying to track down information, emailing people as far away as America along with top people here, one of which is very famous.
I'm seeing my vet today so I'll discuss the emails with them.

Have either you or your vet contacted the Animal Health Trust or Cambridge Veterinary School? If not they may have information,or point you
in the direction of someone who can help.
Hi Ro29
I've seen my vet today, a number of specialist have been emailed tonight, so here's hoping.

A specialist has been found that has treated this condition, I've decided to try the drug therapy on her in the hope it will work, if it doesn't surgery will be the only option. X

Good luck I hope I have found something to help her

Sorry that should have said hope you have found something that will help her and she doesn't need an op
I've just started the drug therapy with her, fingers crossed it works and she has limited side effects from it.

Paws crossed for her.what drugs do they use?
She's on Trental tablets 400mg and protopic ointment, its a long course 2 - 3 months with no idea if it will work on her.

Thank u I was just interested as it's such a rare illness
Hi,
I thought I'd give you an update on my girl.
Unfortunately the drug therapy didn't work, so we had to resort to having the surgery, roughly half of both ear flaps were removed.
With all of the vets visits, bandage changes etc, she has coped remarkably well.
She is a lot more comfortable after the surgery, were just hoping we've done enough for the condition to return again.

Pleased she is more comfortable.i am sure it was the right choice .thank u for update g its always good to know what happens

Thank you Furriefriends, unfortunately it was only option we had left, but she's been healing well and although with shorter ears, she's still my lovable, cheeky girl !
