Topic Dog Boards / General / Using Kennel name as user name on Champdogs forum

Just as it is not acceptable to mention the breed of litters/puppies in threads about breeding on this forum, just wondered if it is allowed to use the Kennel name you use to register puppies etc as your user name on the forum ? A form of advertising surely ?

I've not seen anything saying you can't as its not advertising you have a litter to sell. There is even a space to put your own website on your profile.

I think readers would have to already know the kennel affix to make the link. I know I can be a bit slow but it has taken me a while to work out some that I have 'knowledge of for years.

What or who are you concerned about? Maybe pm Administrators?

It was banned for a while, older users will remember that we had to change our names, then the ban was lifted and some changed back or re-registered. I really don't see the problem as you can link to your website in your profile anyway. It would only be advertising I guess if you were asking about a current litter, in that case if you were using your kennel name you should make it clear that all pups are spoken for.

Did the notify admin first:wink: I must have read some old posts. It just rang a bell that when a new poster starts posting in breeding section about breeding their dog , has a link on their profile to their website & uses their kennel name as a user name it seems like subliminal advertising to me. Perhaps I'm just a suspicious old codger lol

More free advertising is when new poster is posting about their litter & uses a user name like "Greyhoundlady" for example indicating that their litter are Greyhounds. Getting around the ban on breed names being used when writing about breeding. The internet social media isn't really where litters should be advertised to me

Yes, it was Admins decision to allow kennel names again

Yes, I'm an oldie and remember using my kennel name when I joined CD and admin told me I had to change it.  In fact, as it came as a surprise I was at a loss as to a new name and admin suggested JeanSW.

When it was reintroduced that you could use your kennel name I didn't bother changing back.  Although I'm obviously aware of the members who decided to change back.   I agree that people only need to check out your profile to see if you list your website.
