Hi we recently accuired a 6 year old tiny bichon from a lady who was unable to keep her. She has had some dental treatment and teeth cleaned and removed she showed me the vet paperwork and it clearly states no more treatment needed but her breath is really bad so strong we can smell it from a distance whenshe yawns or opens her mouth any ideas ? Thankyou

How is poo ? Could she have a gut problem ? Maybe look at the food she is fed it may not suit her

Hi when we got her she was fed bakers and pedigree pouches but she is now on nutriment raw like my dog, her poo was soft and stringy now nice and firm hoping now on raw it will improve?

Forgot to add shes been on the raw 4 days now so i am hoping it will sort out the breath lol

That's sounds great  it usually does improve things I am a raw feeder too. if nutriment doesn't help there are a lot of other ones u could try and tweaks u can do. And thanks goodness she is now off bakers :)  . U  could also add a little parsley . I don't feed fruit and veg but parsley is good for bad breath even in dogs you could also try giving some kefir as a probiotic to help her gut

I found after searching today about adding parsley so i will be trying that from tomorrow. I know bakers yuk!! Cheap commercial crap!! Ive always fed raw swear by it my other dog thrives on it hardly ever visited the vet teeth so shiny too. I sure hope it sorts her out as its really pretty awful never known anything like it lol

Has she been at her rear end - anal glands?   If she's had an abnormal stool for some time, this could have meant her anal glands have become impacted and infected and in an attempt to stop the discomfort, she's been getting at her back end.

The raw should help the breath, it makes a huge difference to Linc's (as long as I avoid specific foods with him, but it's still much better than on kibble) but yes, she may have been bothering her bum so worth just checking the glands.

I thought anal glands too. I'm sure my girl doesn't 'get at' her rear, but if her anal glands are full her breath seems to get quite whiffy.
