Topic Dog Boards / Showing / which class to enter in

Can a bitch who has won 2 CCs still enter in limit class at champ shows or have to go into open class?
- By Lexy [gb] Date 03.12.17 21:44 UTC
The classification is not to be a show champion or won 7 or more firsts in limit or open class, so depends on how many other first this bitch has won

Limit or open where CCs were on offer. :) It's so easy to lose track so keep notes.

How many times has this bitch won first prize in a Limit class? If she has 2CCs and less than 7firsts in Limit, then she can still go in Limit. If she has more than 7 firsts in Limit, then she must go in Open.

Just to clarify my above information. If she has won 7 firsts or more, in Limit classes, she must go in Open.

Can a person show under a judge who's dogs she's handled for him within the last year?. I personally find it unethical, but not sure if there is a rule governing this scenario. It's no wonder people are voting with their chequebooks and not entering shows when this is happening.Anything for a win, no scruples or morals.

There are no rules to prevent this. Whether it is ethical hmmm I've competed under friends in sheepdog trials(different to breed showing of course) sometimes. I won sometimes I didn't.

Could depend on whether the handler is a professional, a friend or just someone who handles other dogs for the pleasure of doing so.

Sometimes at sheepdog trials there will be an informal show were the "judge" assesses the dogs on whether they like a dog. No breed standard just personal preference. People do occasionally run another's dog for various reasons(like the owner has a broken leg which happened to me)& they may then run a dog at another trial under that owner.

If the rules allow it then it will happen.
What you are inferring is that some judges are dishonest & pay back favours with places at other shows. Some judges will always be dishonest TBH but it is usually more subtle. A friend who shows their dogs can look at a schedule & correctly forecast who will win. They even did this years ago with BIS at Crufts & they were 100% spot on, others thought my friend was wrong when the dog stood 2nd in it's class, however the judge was just about to confirm the places when she changed the 1st & 2nd places allowing the subsequent winner to go on to BIS. The breed, group & BIS judges were all in a small circle of exhibitors & judges BTW.

You can enter or not if you suspect a judge isn't honest it's up to you.

A judge can't judge a dog that it has handled in the show ring, boarded or "prepared for competition" within the previous 12 months -but the other way around is fine.

You have to bear in mind that some breeds are numerically small and everyone knows everyone -if we would all avoid showing under people we know and mix with, there would not be many shows left to enter! (And I for one dislike many -though not all -allrounders, and much prefer breed specialists.) And why would it automatically mean that the person who knew the judge the best would win? It can LOOK like it, but think about it -don't you tend to make friends with similar views to your own? So likely to prefer the same type of dog. Likewise I often predict the winners before the judging by reading the catalogue -because I know what type of dog the judge prefers. (In case I forget, I keep details of pretty much every judge I have ever been under.)

I think it is far less common for judges to be dishonest than people make out. It's a convenient excuse when people don't win, but it's not always the full story.

in our breed we often handle for each other if we have won more than one class for example.

Same in my breed -it can be musical Malinois at times -the nice thing being that people WILL help out. The first time one of my puppy buyers ever went to a BSD breed show (at the time her pup was too young to show) she ended up having to handle for me.

Spot on.   However - there are judges who will judge the 'wrong end of the lead' but if they regularly do this, most will put them in their 'little black book' and vote with their feet!!    Years ago I was at one show and actually heard the judge, awarding that person a 1st say to her 'that will compensate for what happened at XXX show'.   I won at the particular show mentioned and was stood down the line that day (with the same entry)!    She went into my LBB for sure.
