Can anyone tell me if they have experienced a dog reacting to CHV vaccine please?
As far as I am aware not the dog and not as far as I am aware the puppies. Have you had a problem then.

First occasion bitch was lame for 3 days after vaccine, thought maybe she may just be sore at injection site or caught a nerve..... missed her on that breeding so never needed the second. Mentioned this to new vet before first injection on this breeding so he gave it further down her back 12 hours later lame again? l I've researched as much as what I can find and cant see any noted reactions?? Could she just be sensitive to the vaccine?
Sounds strange! I've never heard of any dog having a reaction to this particular vaccine before - it's not a 'high risk' vaccine. Which leg is she going lame on, one of the forelimbs? Could it just be the actual physical slight bruising or soreness after a jab, rather than what the vaccine itself is? Has she done this before for any of her regular vaccinations?

Lame on front left, she will weight bare and walk but when stood shifts the weight off it and has definite lameness on the move. She is not vaccinated and never has been (personal choice to not pump her full of unnecessary chemicals) and is fit and healthy on a normal day. I can only put it down to the vaccine as this is the second occurrence. Just curious if anyone else had experienced any similar issues?? (tho in all honesty with this girl if something out of the ordinary can happen it generally does

)
If you don't have other vaccines to compare her response to, I'd think she is just a sensitive gal and it must have bruised a muscle which connects to her shoulder/leg. I know whenever I've had a jab, my whole arm can ache and I don't want to use my arm the rest of the day and from acupuncture I've had on my back, it's amazing how various muscle groups are connected...
I think (not a breeder so not 100% sure) the the CHV vaccine is supposed to be given subcutaneously and not into muscle, so although it's possible the muscle has been scratched/stabbed accidentally I think it is less likely to have happened twice.
Vaccines have adjuvant in them - mild irritants to make the body's immune systems notice the immunological ingredient and react to it. This is because vaccines usually are delivered where the body isn't expecting the viral cells in them - the body is probably primed to attack the herpes virus in the mucosal areas of the genitals, and not expecting them to suddenly show up under the skin of the shoulders. Likewise the new intranasal flu vaccine is so good because the body is already primed to respond to flu cells in the lining of your nose. The flu jab has a strong adjuvant in to attract the immune systems attention, which as a side effect, usually makes your arm quite sore too.
Some are very sensitive to a given adjuvant and have a bigger immune response to it, resulting in more inflammation than expected. One of my children always has a huge reaction to a particular brand of tetanus vaccine but not another. In the absence of other vaccines for comparison you'll never know if this is the case but it would be my guess - that your girl is particularly sensitive to the adjuvant in the CHV vaccine and the localised inflammation has made her sore in the upper muscles of the leg.
