> I heard that spaying can change the texture of the coat, which concerned me, but the vet assured me that it's rare.

> I wash her once a week, use coat spray (Animology products) and brush her regularly with a comb and slicker brush. Even so, her coat seems to get matted very easily and she ends up with these little knots on her leg feathers that are really hard to get out.
I'd be happy to give some help and advice, as I am a professional groomer and I show Cavaliers, so I often have to come up with a compromise for pets. But everyone's usually the other side of the country from me! Ask the groomer to use a Mars Coat King size 20 on the back coat if it's gone fluffy, and just trim the feathering fairly short if it's the leg feathering getting knotted.
>LucyDogs – that's very kind, thank you. :) But I'm in Yorkshire, so a fair distance from you! I'd looked into getting a Mars Coat King or a Furminator but as I'm not trained to use it I'd worry about ruining the coat or doing more harm than good. I'll ask the groomer when she goes this week. Thanks for the advice.
No training needed to use a Coat King, brush in direction of hair growth like a brush, stop when no more fluffy undercoat comes out or you get bored!
