Mated my bitch last week and have just noticed a slight creamy discharge.
I have had this before with a girl of mine and had antibiotics but wondered what the general consensus was on that or leave well alone. She had the
herpes jab on Monday.
We often have a clear or creamy discharge typically around day 20 after mating, and it's a good pregnancy sign.
I don't know if the same would apply if you only mated last week... anyone else?
Hi. Yes mine had creamy discharge after mating. After a few days of mating the creamy discharge started. Long as it's not green and doesn't smell, all is fine.
Thank you. So you did not go down the antibiotic route?
We didnt have to, no. Everything is fine.
What breed do you have? Have you brought the book titled "Book of the Bitch ". ? It's very good and so many breeding experts I know, recommend it.
I am not an inexperienced breeder but do have that. I'm a bit past that but do refer from time to time! Used to say I would not be without it by my side.
I just wondered as always have got synulux before but was gauging others opinion of not giving medication.
I realise too that all cases are different.
I would not give medication unless needed and there is sign of an infection.
Unfortunately most vets aren't experienced in reproduction and tend to overly prescribe meds IMO. An infection would usually be red, brown, black discharge and have an odour and there may be signs of the bitch being unwell.
What you describe is exactly what my bitch had. From around 42 days, it's changed to clear long stringy discharge coming from her during her first wee of the morning. Again long as it doesn't smell and isn't green , all is fine. Vet and an expert in my dogs breed told me that.
Think this time I will keep a watchful eye out for now.

I have had this in my bitches every time they have been in pup (apart from my 1 and only toy litter). It usually comes around 7-10 days after mating and laata about 2 days. It resembles custard although is a creamy/very slight light greenish tinge in colour. First twice my vet put them on Synulox but I got to the stage I thought it waa too much of a coincidence that every time in pup they took it at the same stage even when a maiden bitch was done with frozen semen so unlikely to be the start of an infection. Many people in my breed say there bitches get this. Some give AB's some dont. I dont and unless it looked or smelled different I would avoid them and take it aa a good sign she was in pup.
