Woman banned from keeping animals after her dog burned its paws on hot pavement:

"A woman who walked her dog on pavements so hot it caused her paws to bleed has been banned from keeping animals for five years. Lesley Duke was walking her German Shepherd in temperatures reaching 25C in Gosport, Hampshire, before concerned members of the public confronted her. Boy ordered to remove Sikh jewellery or face exclusion The dog’s paws burned as she walked over the scorching pavement before she finally collapsed of heat exhaustion. Despite seeming to recover at first, the 10-year-old dog, called Kitty Karna, eventually suffered kidney failure and had to be put down. Duke, 53, from Gosport, admitted two charges of causing unnecessary suffering to her German Shepherd". Full Story HERE

What a pity that this penalty is not imposed more. I see so many dogs being made to walk on hot pavements in hot weather. The owners should be made to walk barefoot on pavements which are hot. It is the only way some of them would learn.

My thoughts exactly!  Back in July I was down at the caravan and had popped into town.  It was 27 degrees and I felt so angry when I saw a GR being dragged along a pavement.  The owner quite obviously cross because he wasn't walking fast enough.  At the time I wished I could take her shoes off.

I dread to think what that poor dog went through. At least people did try and stop her. I must admit that it is something that makes my blood boil and have been known to pull people up for it when I see them. Most the time, they haven't given it a second thought and some are horrified when the possible harm caused is highlighted to them. It's not rocket science is it?

I spoke to several dog owners at an event and asked them to keep their dogs in the shade. The replies were almost always, "Mind your own business". The ignorant won't listen or learn and it is their dogs who suffer. It really spoils my day when I see this. Dogs get dragged round boot sales round here as the lazy owners won't walk the dogs before or after their own excursions. Getting my blood pressure up again now!
