If your dog carries an endorsement for registering puppies, and the breeder won't lift it for you to have a litter, is it correct, if all the relevant health tests are in place, along with clear eye certificates for three years, and you have a litter, the kennel club will lift the endorsement for you to be able to register the puppies if the person who put it on in the first please won't lift it.

Nope, it's not correct. The breeder can have reasons other than health tests for not wanting the puppy bred.

Definitely not the case, the KC now seem to listen more to the breeder who places it instead of the person trying to breed, especially if they are made aware of the restriction when purchasing the puppy

I think this is the clincher when it comes to the KC lifting the endorsement regardless of the BREEDER'S wishes.   Frankly I was shocked to discover they'd do this!   If they are taking more note of what the Breeder wants, GOOD.    There's nothing to stop anybody breeding their bitch, endorsed or not (they won't be able to register them with the relevant KC), but there may well be very good reasons why a puppy is sold fully endorsed.   And there should be but the buyer has to be made fully aware of the endorsements and what they mean.

In my breed, good breeders don't normally sell immature puppies without being endorsed!

Well they did it to me, on a golden retriever bitch sold as a pet, I had no say in it at all, she had done the health tests, and they registered her first little, I had not written a letter or anything, and suddenly there was a litter in the breed supplement book.

So they weren't aware the puppy was endorsed?   A breeder is required to make the puppy buyer aware that it is fully endorsed, or just partially (not for breeding, for eg) at the time of the purchase.

And, much as I can't ever remember asking! (I knew the people involved) I'd suggest the owner of any stud dog should make sure the bitch isn't carrying endorsements before going ahead with the mating?

If the KC are allowing this, it kind-of makes a mockery of endorseing an immature puppy AT ALL!!!   Makes my blood boil.

How did you know the people involved, they were given a contract, which stated the endorsements
- By onetwothreefour Date 08.10.17 09:17 UTC
Anita, have you contacted the KC about this?!
- By anitaaveline [gb] Date 08.10.17 10:24 UTC
I did contact the kennel club, and I wrote to them, but they were not interested at all, and I was annoyed, as she used stud dogs I did not think complemented my lines, and also her bitch puppy was one of my girls litter who produced a 0-0 brood from the same litter. If she had been upfront, I am happy to lift endorsements, and have lifted several, but It so easy for a newbie to get conned into using a stud you would have preferred not to be introduced into your line. also once lifted, they can do as they please.

Did they sign this and did you keep a copy, that is the clincher with the KC you must have SIGNED confirmation that they are aware of the endorsements.

We both signed an agreement that the puppies had endorsed KC papers. It's so long ago now, but it happened, and I am in the middle of buying a puppy. I have been told she will not sell to breeders, and I have accepted this. But it did happen to me.

Did you not go to the KC with a copy of the signed endorsements and question why they had lifted the endorsement - and if so, what did they say?  'Not being interested' isn't an adequate answer - they need to give a response which explains why they have lifted that endorsement.

If you had any thoughts on getting round this and are wanting to breed, then your only choice is not buying this pup.

To my memory, don't the KC write to the breeder saying that endorsements have been lifted?

I seem to remember a thread on here about it where a breeder was informed and the puppy owner had forged a letter.
- By Goldmali Date 08.10.17 20:07 UTC
Yes the breeder gets a letter from the KC but the owner does not.

How long ago was it?  I think because so many breeders complained, they have changed their stance.
A lady I know can't get hers lifted, good hips, elbows eyes etc, even discussed having a litter with the breeder when she bought her, but for some reason the breeder won't lift the restriction - very frustrating for her but what can you do?

Could have been a mistake KC made just as well.
