Ive waited quite a while for this boy to mature,he is doing execeptionally well in the ring and is from fantastic lines and he belongs to a very close friend too.He isnt proven yet.she came round with him on thursday and he came running through the door and mounted her almost straight away, this didnt mean anything because he is inexperienced and ive seen many a new stud do this even when the timing isnt right( she was on day 11).He did quite manage and she yelped every time he hit the spot and ended up doing it all by himself! Afterwards i checked her internally and she definately didnt seem open enough..so put down his failure to this .I chose not to blood test this time because the blood test got it wrong with my other girl and i chose to mate when i thought she seemed ready resulting in a litter of 8,if id gone with the blood test she wouldve missed.Anyway my friend is away for the weekend so left her boy with me.As soon as she left he didnt even sniff at her,the first 24 hours they were together with my other dogs( supervised at all times) then i decided to keep them completly apart and introduce them this morning and absolutely nothing. My friend is popping back this morning because he seems to gain confidence from her being here so we are hoping something happens today. My own stud dog will ignore until the time is right( although he isnt here at the moment for obvious reasons) then he will get down to business but ive never heard of a stud being super keen only while his owner is here.she is on day 13 and on checking her today definately seems more ready,i know we havent missed yet.Any help on this matter would be very much appreciated cos im baffled.
Day 13 could still be too early. Without a blood test you can't know anything, and neither can anyone else. If there was some voodoo way of knowing, we'd all be using it! Blood tests are not always accurate at predicting what is *going* to happen - because levels can rise/drop faster than average - but they are rock solid and scientifically correct for where a dog's progesterone actually IS, at the time the test is taken. So if you are unsure what's happening, the blood test is the only way to tell. You could try introducing her to another stud (experienced) and see what he says, too.

Theres no one local here who does Idexx so would have to send away on monday results tues so would be too late anyway.2 of my friends from ringcraft wouldve missed if gone by blood test results which is also why im wary although i understand some swear by it.

I have known quite a few studs attempt/ play at mating (even succeed with a tarty bitch) when first introduced to the bitch, and then to settle down and show no interest until she is truly ready.
If it were my breed she would be very unlikely to be ready for another couple of days.

Tried today with owner present and still nothing so i think you could be right.
It's not likely to be too late if you send away on Monday with results on Tuesday: A bitch will typically first start to stand a day or two before ovulation, then there's ovulation and then 48hrs for the eggs to mature before they can be fertilised, followed by 24-48hrs when they are fertilisable. So that's a whole 5 days, and unless you test on day 5 of it all, you won't be too late. There is a difference between using the progesterone tests to determine when to go to the stud, versus trying to get a mating and wanting some information about what's going on. If you are testing to go to the stud, then yes due to travel, stud availability, levels rising faster than anticipated etc you can be too late. But if you are already with the stud, trying to get a mating, you're unlikely to be caused to be 'late' by doing a progesterone test - late for what? You're already trying! All it would tell you, is whether to try another stud before her fertile period ends (if possible) or whether to go for a side by side AI before you're too late...

Have you tried having her swabbed instead?
