Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Ultrasound question?
- By Tinywirral22 Date 05.08.17 13:15 UTC
I had my girl scanned 10 days ago at 37 days and I saw something like a heartbeat straightaway but the lady dismissed it, moved away from it and said she can't see anything.  I don't think she was extremely experienced by the look of things.  So my question is if it wasn't a puppy heartbeat I saw then what else could it of been? Is there anything else that does that?? It was like a flutter at the very top of the screen. I just don't understand why she ignored it . She also said that her stomach should feel like a tennis ball but I've never heard that before .
Thanks in advance.

I've never seen heartbeats unless a puppy has been picked out and they have zoomed in to see it. Although I have had 2 negative scans and both bitches gone on to whelp a litter.

This is what bothers me about all the scanning done these days.  As I've mentioned () before, even if the scan says no, are you still going to cling to the hope that come the due date, puppies arrive?   And even if a scan suggests there are puppies, that's only so at the time of the scan - there is no guarantee the bitch will carry to term.   With a couple (or just one) of decent matings, plan for the litter and if nothing happens by the due date, THEN see your vet who will most probably x-ray, especially if he thinks the bitch is empty, to confirm.
