Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Puppy weight?

Hi
My girl gave birth to 7 pups. 3 Naturally and 4 via c-section. Everything has been good and fine until today. I have been weighing the pups every day (they are 10 days old today). And they have all been gaining weight steadily. Some more than others but weight all of them none the less. However, today one of our little girls has actually lost weight. She went from 608g to 600g.  She is fine in herself, quiet and huddled with the other when not feeding, she is still feeding and seems strong. Should I be worried or just monitor another day (e.g. Make sure she gets priority feeding) before contacting the vets? I think I am just looking for reassurance/advice before going into vet panic mode like I did during the labour.

That's a minimal loss, so chances are the pup will have gained it back, and added more, by the next weighing. It happens. I have pups similar size 12 days old, and they are gaining less now so I shall start them on solids over the weekend.

Thank you. This is not my first litter but my first biggish litter. Last time I had a litter of 2 so I had no worries at all and it was 6 years ago so feel like a complete new hand at it this time. I did weigh her again this morning and she had gained about 30g.  And after seeing your reply I feel less panicked by it... thanks again.

The sure-fire sign of a problem is a noisy puppy.   If the puppies are quiet and nursing, all should be well.   I found my 'Sectioned puppies did lose weight through the first day or so.

Sorry to hijack, but is starting to gain less (daily?)  usually an indicator to start solids Goldmali?
