Topic Dog Boards / General / Doggy gential query???

Has anyone ever had their dog's 'bit' come completely out of the skin and had the dog cry cos he couldn't get it back in....

As you can guess this happened to my 4 month lab over the weekend. My partner told me it had happened to his previous lab when he was a puppy and getting hormonal but I have never heard of this happening to a dog...is it normal???????????????

Please tell me if anyone else has had this happen to their dog

Thanks all,
An embarrassed Claire

I've known this happen to stud dogs after a mating (was told to keep a bowl of clean, cold water available!) :o

Hi Claire,
My puppy is 10 months old, and this has started happening with him recently. He doesn't whine or anything, but he starts running around in circles, then checks if it's still there - if it is, he runs around in circles again, and so on! I'm sure it's normal, as at 10 months they are going through hormonal changes - not sure about 4 months though, seems quite young.

Yes it does seem quite young to me too. I am concerned though as it came so far out he was screaming and we had to hold him and help him sort it.

Hi Claire,
Did you ask your vet or puppy's breeder about it? Although like I said it happens with our Cody, he does eventually manage to put it away again!! But then he's that bit older.

No I haven't asked the breeder as I'm not really sure what she advice she can offer. however, I may well contact her as it was a bit scary just wondered whether anyone else had experienced this.
