Hi guys, I have a visiting girl just now, they've been tied for 1 hour 20mins and I'm getting a bit concerned about them, is there any risk in such a long tie? After an hour we tried dribbling cold water and then ice chips between them but they're still locked firmly. 1st tie was normal 20mins.

Happens. One of my girls was in a tie for 1h 40 min, and at Crufts at all places! (where you're not supposed to mate dogs - guilty - but it was the right time for her and the stud from abroad we wanted was there). A bit disappointing result only 3 pups, after such a long time I expected at least a dozen!

They have now been tied for 1h 50 mins, phoned vets and they said to call back after 2h 30 mins. Such a long tie is worrying me!

Try putting him back in normal mating position and gently push him from behind to see if that releases them.
You might just have to wait it out I feel your pain.

We've tried letting him reverse, but he really screams, they're now both lying down sleeping, still firmly stuck together. It's now been 2hrs 20mins, I can phone the vet back in ten minutes.

Finally separated, just as I was on the phone to the vets, 2 and a half hours better result in pups!

Oh your poor knees! I'm wondering whether you'll try a repeat mating.

~Oh goodness, longest I have had with my dog is an hour and 5mins and I had rather run out of conversation by the time the bitch owner left!

Years ago Hunter & his bitch tied for just over 2hours.. for a singleton!

Beanie (Hunters litter sister) tied for an extraordinary length of time, they both fell asleep.. we had to waken them when separated :)

Just when you think you have seen & done it all, lol..

Errr no!

Luckily this was probably the last day the bitch will stand, we had two slip matings earlier in the week and then a normal 20 minute tie Thursday before the marathon today. My poor boy is all chafed after that tie!

Poor fella.

Same as you Marianne.  After years and years of breeding you realise that you haven't seen it all!  I admit that I would have been worried too.
