Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Bitch due her first season

Can anyone give me some advice I have one boxer age 2 - male, and boxer bitch 8 months old. I was wondering when I could expect her first season? Also is there anything on the market to stop seasons plus will it make much mess. Also some suggestions on keeping them apart and for how long would be most appreciated.

Wow! You're in for fun!
Your bitch could come into season any time from now on - when her vulva starts looking swollen, press a white tissue against it first thing - the moment you get a pink stain, she's started. I personally have never used anything to stop seasons, having heard horror stories from those who have (though I'm sure it can work perfectly well).
Suggestions for keeping them apart...some people put one or other into kennels for the three weeks. Others will keep them in the same house, but never let them into the same room, with one being crated. The male can get very distressed, lose weight, howl etc. The bitch can also get very frustrated, and there is a theory that this frustration can lead to bad phantom pregnancies.
Is there a family member/friend who could board one of them for the three weeks (which is the average length of season)?

my bitch has just come into season at 9 months and have put her on to bitch deoderising and breath tablets, these seem to have worked quite well but my bitch lives on her own and is only walked with males once a day for the first half of her season, i also spray her with a bitch spray. but i wouldnt leave her with your male unatended and wouldnt let her off the lead on walks as some bitches tend to run off in search of a mate. i also found her to be very clingy when she first came in to season and wanted out to wee constantly.
good luck

Will it make much mess?. Every dog is different and every season. Mine have had seasons when you've hardly seen any blood, then 1 of my bitches last season I had to follow her round with a mop for over 3 weeks. Just glad we don't have carpets.

I've got a GSD bitch- 11 month old still not came into season:) So I shouldn't worry about it.
