Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Pregnant Allergic reaction - Had to medicate

Has anyone had any experience of allergic reaction in pregnancy?
My girlie is just about 5 weeks and has had the most horrendous allergic reaction (she's never had one before and I don't know what the allergen was - she woke up like it) after discussion with my vet I have given her piriton. I feel I had no choice but to medicate her after her symptoms worsened to the point that if I had left it any longer it would start to effect her airway. I'm absolutely terrified it will hurt her babies but I feel that she was at risk. This is a much planned for much longed for litter.  I am going to book another scan to check there development in a week or so. Does anyone have any good outcomes after giving piriton?

Piriton is the one antihistamine that is licensed for dogs although vets do use others . It is also given during human pregnant  if required.  I have used it and k is many who do but haven't for a pregnant bitch.i suspect there will be no issues and the worst side effect is usually drowsiness when on them .Sounds line it was the right choice especially as she responded .An allergic reaction to anything could happen at any time and don't forget your vet suggested this and i am sure he is aware of the pregnancy and any risks .Without it sounds like your girl may have been in trouble.

The data is not a good idea to use when pregnant in terms of humans so if the vet knows the girl is pregnant but really no other suitable alternatives one just has to hope all will be well as the most important thing is the bitch and not the unborn puppies. Hope all goes well with the scan and also in 4 weeks time when she gives birth and all are healthy puppies :)
