Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Female Bulldog - Day 63....Advice needed.
- By jmt123456 [gb] Date 13.03.17 09:05 UTC Edited 13.03.17 10:19 UTC
I have my Old English bulldog now on day 63, this is our first time breeding so any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated.
5 days ago she started nesting and temperature starting fluctuating but its been like that now for days and we thought she would be further in labour by now by day 63.
She picked at her bowl of food a few times yesterday, and started panting really heavy through the night so we thought that might be it...but this morning she seems fine again?

Id rather leave her as long as possible before we need to help her, but is a C - Section the best option for her? I know its different for each circumstance but im worried if we leave it too long she's not going to manage herself and it will be an emergency.

Oh dear.
I'm sure someone who is more knowledgeable will be along to help you shortly but in the meantime...
Is your bitch from lines which have managed to whelp themselves without a caesarean?
I think (and I have been known to be wrong!) that most bulldogs need a caesarean due to the way the breed has been developed.
What has the breeder of your bitch or the stud dog you used advised?

Given the breed and how often a C.Section is needed, I think I'd be involving my vet either today, or for sure, tomorrow.    Bearing in mind for every day the litter will continue to be growing, maybe making a 'Section more likely to be needed, even if she comes from a free-whelping line.  And if the owner of the stud dog is experienced, I'd be talking to them too!   With mine, not the same breed, who more often than not went into secondary inertia, I only let them go 2 days over from the first mating.   Yes you can sit and wait, and then lose the lot!!
