please could anyone help me on question about white chihuahua's.

I have been told that any pure white(albino) dogs can carry congenital abnormalities. i have recently been offered a beautiful white short coat male and he is a lovely boy. i was chattin to someone the other day and have been advised any white dog can be susseptible to blindness, deafness, infertility(not that he is to be used for breeding purposes) and some heart defects. I know this to be true of some breeds i.e boxers e.t.c but is this also true for chihuahuas.

i would truly appreciate any views and concerns reagrding this matter

I have 3 chihuahuas Sully, Fynn, Rosie rescue, i have heard about the deafness with any white dogs but dont know much about the other things part from heart problems, but i think that comes with chihuahuas in general, i had a red smoothcoat boy Toby who died at few days off 16 years old of heart probs and 11 days ago lost one of our rescues Penny, long coat beige/white also with heart problems. When we got our Fynn she was a 'white' smoothcoat at 5 1/2 months old but is now over 2 years old her coat is till smooth but she is now champagne blonde? colour, so your boy might still change colour in time?

thank you for your response

im really sorry to hear about penny, its realy hard when you loose a pet especially when they are rescue. I too have rescued a fair number in my time. The boy i have been offered is now 3 yrs old and his eyes are blue/green so i think that he is going to remain pure white/. He is adorable though so no doubt he will probably come and join my family of 8 chihuahua's/.

Im from Manchester.

definatley a chihuahua lover they are such characters. i also have 6 cavaliers, one cocker spaniel(my daughters) and a miniature pincer. Not forgetting the 3 children i have as well. Its always fun and games in my house hold, but its an eventful life. out of all my dogs 4 are rescue, six chihuahuas are from an old lady who couldnt manage any more so she has retired them with me.

like i said its a busy life but i wouldnt change it.

nice to speak with you
