Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Implantation of embryos?
- By gsdowner Date 03.02.17 09:54 UTC
My sister was visiting with her dog this week and he was showing A LOT of interest in my recently mated girl. She is definitely out of season and we are 2+ weeks post mating. As the embryos would be coming close to implanting now, could she be smelling different or is it just that he might have thought he could have got lucky? He only half heatedly tried to bonk her head (he has been fixed for years) twice but it is unusual behaviour for him.

She has been recently checked at the vet and there are no unusual behaviours from her so unlikely to be anything sinister....

With my breed there is very little to go on before having a scan...no morning sickness, no refusal of food and hardly ever any clear discharge!

Could be he's just not that often around a bitch and I always had to give mine a brief bath, concentrating on the back end, when they were first out of season so the boys ignored her when she was first back with the pack, or perhaps her anal glands need attention?  That often turned on my boys.

Plus if she was in standing heat, perhaps that was earlier in her season than later which means she would be barely out of season?

One of my males (who was never used at stud) used to confuse the scent of a bitch in whelp with one in season...........could be a very good sign!

I have had this experience too of a dog being very turned on by a pregnant bitch.

Thank you!

As we are RAW feeders, I do take care not to allow anal gland issues to flare up. She is still a little plump back there and I had to wipe her down a little due to crystalisation of clear/slightly yellow liquid (which obviously could simply be a few spots of wee), as she lay on the bed this afternoon - the reaction was quite strange. She was rubbing herself into the covers, rolling and making happy grunting noises....She's usually very aloof and keeps to the end of the bed when she does choose to come up so this, and the extra cuddles I am getting, are rather nice to be honest.

Going to keep my fingers crossed.
