Right - I am pretty certain a litter has been advertised (elsewhere) where the owners are refusing to kc the litter because 'they don't want people breeding from them'. They are priced just shy of a thousand pounds but having checked mykc neither are hip/elbow scored.

Is there any way of finding out if either the dam or stud are endorsed? Going by their kennel names - both come from breeders who would normally endorse.

No. But the breeders of both dogs are known and I'm certain both endorse. The dam's breeder is the breeder of the pup I was looking at where the other progeny had higher than average hip scores and elbow score between 1 and 3. Before I knew this, I spoke to her about my intentions and mentioned breeding - she said she would lift endorsements if all health tests were satisfactory.

The breeder of the stud no longer breeds but he was the stud to the pup I was looking at and is now owned by the dam's breeder.

A third party owns the stud and dam to the litter advertised.

Why not contact the breeders of the parents and ask them.

Breeder of stud no longer breeds - her main stud went to maryport - he is the stud to the litter I was looking at. There are no contact details for her that I can find that are up to date.

To be honest if they don't want them bred from, genuinely they would KC reg and endorse.

That's strange because it usually does -for your own dogs only, obviously. I recently lifted the endorsement of one of my own (homebred) dogs as I was using him at stud, and the KC took ages to lift it which is unusual. He was definitely listed in my MyKC account as endorsed, and now he is not. I checked on a daily basis lol.

This is all very odd because at the end of the day, the ONLY way to be sure a puppy sold isn't bred from is to NEUTER before selling.   Even with endorsements, that doesn't mean the dog won't be bred.   Just that the offspring can't be KC registered.    Was a time when papers were withheld (UK) but again, that wouldn't stop the dogs from being bred.    Would anybody be asking £1K/puppy for a litter that wasn't KC registered - and get that price?  Asking and getter are not the same and as I said before, people these days ask higher than they get, expecting to be bartered down.   That didn't happen in 'my day'!!

As far as that litter is concerned, you can but ask - breeders, breeders of the parents, the KC!!

The price is the price,  and anyone wanting to haggle can go elsewhere as to me and those I know it would be offensive.

I price my puppies to hopefully cover costs with a bit over to reinvest in my dogs.

I would absolutely agree BUT seeing the prices for my main breed of late, I asked and THAT'S what I was told.        I certainly sold mine at what was the 'going rate' at the time.  And would adjust the price to fit IF the home was obviously going to be a good one (even if the buy in price is just the start so if people can't afford that, chances are they can't afford the puppy, long term ).   Dogs = luxury NOT necessity!!

When I questioned the seller the other day he said he would get back to me with the health results today - as far as the kc are concerned, neither dog has been health tested. Asking that much money for a pup that isn't even registered/from health tested parents/from dodgy lines is awful and Joe public will pay it. This isn't even a 'rare' colour litter though there was liver further back.

I have seen some litters - usually by someone claiming to be from licensed kennels with a litter priced at 1,200 or even 1,500 but the pups would have to s*** gold bars for me to pay that much! This is not a rare breed, the litters are not small and the bitch does not require a section normally, therefore the price cannot be justified....at yet, people who haven't done any research will pay.

I charge nowhere near that much but I would not expect anyone to ask me to lower the price on a pup - it's how much the litter cost me to raise!

It's a shame that you can't see if they are endorsed or not unless you are the owner and also that the kc aren't on top of it if Goldmali's boy's details are incorrect :(

Interesting, do you think the bitch's breeder can take any action or would?  I imagine that legally the bitch is the owners and they can do what they like apart from KC register the puppies which judging by the popularity of x-breds is not a priority for the public any more, I suppose in the end the public have to educate themselves and they can't be made to choose a puppy from a breeder that does everything right.

I think the breeder is going to try and do something about it but as I am not known to her, not sure what will happen. Pretty certain she can't do anything as the pups are due and neither dog is health tested so the pups will just be sold as non kc and cost Joe Public 990 quid for the benefit...
